The Maddest Mullah of Them All

Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (alternative pronunciations: “I’m-in-a-jihad”, “I’m-a-dinner-jacket”) requested permission from New York City authorities to visit Ground Zero in New York to lay a wreath in honor of the victims.

Ahmadinejad’s people didn’t specify whether he meant he wanted to honor the 3000 Americans or honor the 19 hijackers, but given his history, New York assumed the latter and turned him down.

Thankfully, it wasn’t up to the State Department to decide, or for the White House. Ground Zero belongs to the New York Port Authority, whose police force suffered a huge number of casualties on September 11.

It would have been up to the New York Port Authority Police to provide security for the guy who helped sponsor the attack.

Rudy Guiliani spoke for them saying, “This is a man who has made threats against America and Israel, is harboring bin Laden’s son and other Al-Qaeda leaders, is shipping arms to Iraqi insurgents and is pursuing the development of nuclear weapons,” Giuliani said.

“Assisting Ahmadinejad in touring Ground Zero — hallowed ground for all Americans — is outrageous,” he said.

The White House was only too happy to defer the issue.

White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said a visit to ground zero “is a matter for the city of New York, but it seems more than odd that the president of a country that is a state sponsor of terror would visit ground zero.”

“Odd” is an understatement.

Assessment:

Ahmadinejad’s Iran is already waging economic warfare against the United States, using Iranian and Venezuelan oil to weaken the US dollar economically by demanding payment in euros instead of dollars.

He is waging the blood-and-guts kind of warfare against US forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, providing both men and materiel to the effort.

In the background, he is setting the stage for a new Middle East conflagration that could easily spark the wider war he believes it is his religious duty to start as part of the Islamic apocalypse.

Ahmadinejad believes that the Mahdi, a sort of Islamic messiah, will lead the Islamic world to a glorious victory over the infidel world, which will then usher in a period of Islamic peace and prosperity.

He believes he was chosen by Allah to start that war, which will then force the Mahdi out of hiding. Ahmadinejad has made no secret of his belief, saying at a mosque recently that he expected such a war within two years.

Iran has been helping Syria fit its short-range ballistic missiles with chemical warheads, according to a report in Jane’s Defense Weekly.

There was an accident in July during the refitting of a Scud-C with mustard gas at al-Safir that resulted in the deaths of dozens of Iranian and Syrian engineers.

Jane’s says “The blast dispersed chemical agents across the storage facility and outside.” Among the chemical agents detected in addition to mustard gas was VX and sarin, two of the most deadly nerve agents known to man.

A couple of weeks after that, Israel flew a sortie against a site in Syria that was rumored to be a Syrian nuclear facility that was recently resupplied by a North Korean cement freighter.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard is building up its forces in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley where Hezbollah has been building huge stockpiles of weapons brought in through the Tehran-Damascus pipeline.

And Ahmadinejad has opened an air corridor into the Americas via Venezuela’s Conviasa Airlines, which run weekly from Tehran to Damascus to Caracas.

Flights originating in Tehran or Damascus fly directly to Venezuela where travelers and cargo are inspected according to rules set forth by Ahmadinejad’s ally, Hugo Chavez.

So, as stated earlier, calling Ahamdinejad’s request to lay a wreath at Ground Zero “odd” is an understatement.

If Ahamadinejad had his way, America would be dotted with Ground Zero memorials and Israel would be a nuclear wasteland.

Ahmadinejad is making preparations for retaliatory strikes against both Israel and the US in the event of an attack on his nuclear facilities, but his ace in the hole is Syria.

Ahmadinjad knows Israel is the greater threat. America would likely only defeat Iran. Iran could hurt America, but not defeat it. Israel would have no choice but to annihilate Iran before Iran annihilated Israel.

So Syria is the key player. While Syria takes out Israel, Ahmadinejad hopes to keep the US at bay via his facist allies to the south.

Unless Israel steals his hole card by taking out the Syrian threat first. Which brings us to Damascus.

The prophet Isaiah predicted the utter and overnight destruction of Damascus at Israel’s hands.

Isaiah further notes that, while the ‘multitude of nations’ will rise up to object, God will ‘rebuke’ them “like a rolling thing before a whirlwind.” (see Isaiah 17:1-6,12-14)

Isaiah prophesied it would be “taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.” This prophecy has never been fulfilled in ancient times.

Damascus is the oldest continually-inhabited city on earth, an important crossroads and economic and cultural center for some five thousand years.

The manner of Damascus’ destruction was also not possible historically. “behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not,” says the prophet. (17:14) Certainly no Israeli army of history could have fulfilled this prediction — it remains future.

Now, allow me a little room for speculation, with the understanding that it IS only speculation, and while it is from the perspective of Bible prophecy, that isn’t the same as BEING Bible prophecy.

I could be completely off base here, but that doesn’t mean Isaiah is wrong or the Bible is untrustworthy. It just means I made an educated guess and guessed wrong.

But however God plans to accomplish it when He does, events have conspired to create a logical framework in which they could fit right now.

That being said, were Israel to eliminate the Syrian threat before Ahmadinejad was ready to deploy it, it is at least possible that it might force Ahmadinejad back into the box, at least temporarily.

Which fits with Ezekiel’s prophecy that Iran’s ultimate confrontation with Israel takes place during the Gog-Magog invasion, not a war involving Syria, Venezuela and possibly the US.

It also fits Isaiah 17’s prophecy regarding the “burden of Damascus”.

But again, let me caution you. There is a danger in carelessly interpreting Bible prophecy in light of current events. If one does so, it is at one’s peril — that is to say, one could easily be wrong.

Where the danger lies is in putting one’s faith in one’s interpretation, which is fallible, and then blaming the Bible, which is not.

What is significant to note that is that, whether one gets all the details right in advance or not, the Bible’s overall outline is in complete harmony with the direction current events are moving.

The prophets got the alignment of nations right, they got the time frame right, (imagine compressing all these events into a single generation, somewhere in time, to the exclusion of all others, let alone naming all the participants) and the only part not yet clear are some of the details.

Instead, take in the Big Picture and see it for what it is. It is evidence that the Bible is true, God is real, His Plan is unfolding before our eyes, and that this is the generation that will see His return.

A lost and sin-sick world sees only chaos and moans despairingly, ‘what is this world coming to?’ God has entrusted us with the answer to that question.

Be confident despite the chaos, and be ready to give reason for the hope that is in you as the dark days approach.

“For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (2nd Timothy 1:12)

Member’s Note:

We had a smooth and uneventful trip home with minimal traffic and maximum journey mercies, thanks to your prayers.

Our sincerest thanks to Pastor Mike King and his wife Miriam, Joe and Pam Wynne, and the wonderful folks at Mt Tabor Baptist Church in Beckley, WV for their hospitality and graciousness under difficult circumstances.

They were the embodiment of what being a Christian is all about. The world doesn’t know what it is missing.
