Casualty of War

Casualty of War
Vol: 35 Issue: 21 Saturday, August 21, 2004

According to the Bible’s scenario for the last days, the antichrist’s government will exercise such total control over the lives of individuals that, unless one becomes part of his system, it will impossible to hold a job, earn a living or be part of daily social commerce.

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” (Revelation 13:16-17)

Consider, for just a second, when John wrote this prophecy from exile on the Isle of Patmos, sometime around 87 AD. John would have been an old man — in his seventies, at least — so he had lived a long, long time.

In all his long life, John’s world changed very little. Cutting-edge technology included horses, spears, chariots and single-masted ships. It is unlikely that, during his lifetime, there was a single invention of any significance.

In his world — and for the next fifteen hundred years or so, the pace of change came so slowly that it was imperceptible from one generation to the next.

Like Daniel, John was forced to try and describe twenty-first century technology using a 1st century vocabulary. Like Daniel, he had no words to describe modern mechanized warfare, mass communication, aircraft, nuclear mushroom clouds, etc.

But he did the best he could to describe a highly evolved technical society in the last days, using a vocabulary that demanded that anything that moved under its own power must be alive.

“And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.” (Revelation 9:7-10)

Ever seen an Apache gunship? How would you describe it if cutting-edge technology in your world is a horse-drawn cart?

“And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.” (Revelation 9:17)

How would you describe an Abrams tank speeding across the battlefield from John’s perspective?

John’s account of the government of antichrist was even more difficult to describe, since it demanded a level of individual control that didn’t exist in John’s day — or even fifty years ago!

“And ALL that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. . . And [he]deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” (Revelation 13:8, 12-15)

Until this generation, it would have been impossible to get ‘ALL that dwell upon the earth to worship him’ — it wasn’t until 1990 that there was even such a thing as a 24 hour news network with global reach.

Today there is CNN, BBC World Service, Fox News, al-Jazeera, al Manar, Skynews, and so on.

And until this generation, any news network had to be honest.

Nobody expects to hear the truth from the news anymore. They expect to hear THEIR truth. That’s why CNN is one long Kerry campaign commercial, while Fox News is one long Bush campaign commercial.

Everybody knows it — they choose their news coverage based on which candidate they support in the 2004 election. It is extremely doubtful, for example, that a Kerry supporter would prefer Fox News over CNN. Or vice-versa. Both networks claim to be unbiased. But if they were, then why would anyone identify Fox with conservatives or CNN with liberals? Then there are the major US networks, who don’t even pretend to be neutral anymore.

In this generation, there are two choices for news. News that favors conservatives, like Fox. And news that favors liberals, like CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS, to name a few. A third choice — news devoid of editorial spin — does NOT exist.

The Kerry SWIFT boat controversy provides an excellent example of how the mainstream liberal press openly manipulates the news.

ABC’s World News Tonight, which ignored the May 4 press conference by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and hasn’t since mentioned their charges or early August ad, led Thursday night with how, as anchor Elizabeth Vargas framed the matter:

“John Kerry fights back against charges he lied about his war record. He accuses a veterans’ group of doing the President’s ‘dirty work.'”

The CBS Evening News led with how the group’s “ads may be working” since a CBS poll found a significant drop in support for Kerry amongst veterans. The CBS Evening News certainly couldn’t credit or blame itself since its total coverage of the ad consisted of two sentences on August 5 when anchor John Roberts stressed criticism of it:

“A harsh new television ad that attacks John Kerry is being denounced as quote, ‘dishonest and dishonorable’ by a Bush supporter, Republican Senator John McCain.”

CNN’s NewsNight, anchored by Daryn Kagen, devoted two full stories and an interview segment with Kathleen Hall Jamieson, with whom Kagen fretted about the negative ad on an irrelevant topic. Those represented only the second time NewsNight has touched the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

The first ever came on Tuesday night when the Aaron Brown-anchored show tied a story to a new ad denouncing the ad NewsNight had ignored. The ad asserted, as played in part by CNN:

“George Bush used his father to get into the National Guard, was grounded and then went missing. Now he’s allowing false advertising that attacks John Kerry.”

And none of the broadcast evening networks stories mentioned that Kerry has now changed his story about being in Cambodia in 1968, changing a recollection that was ‘seared — seared — into’ his memory — until somebody pointed out he was not telling the truth about it.

On Wednesday, as the Media Research Council noted, “TV Gives No Respect to Swift Boat Vets for Truth: ABC, CBS & NBC Gave 75 Stories to Bush ‘AWOL’ Charge, 9 to Claims Kerry Embellished War Record.”

According to the Bible, the antichrist will attain total control of the social infrastructure, including the political, religious, and economic systems. In order to accomplish all that, he will first need to control the propaganda machine that makes it all palatable to the masses.

The global propaganda machine that John foresaw was, as noted earlier, no more possible than the space shuttle, yet John confidently predicted its existence for one generation, somewhere in time. That propaganda machine, described in AD 87 by an old man in a cave, didn’t even begin to take shape until the early 1980’s and the introduction of CNN.

Today, truth is whatever somebody wants it to be, and such a person has no trouble locating a propaganda outlet that will deliver the ‘truth’ desired. Of all the necessary social structures required by the Bible’s scenario for the last days, the most important — and least noticed, is the global propaganda machine now operating at full capacity to a willing audience.

We are in the midst of a great spiritual war in which the ultimate goal is control of the hearts and minds of men. Back in the early days of the Second World War, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill observed that, “the first casualty of war is truth.”

Paul wrote, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Peter warns; “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1 Peter 5:8)

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. . . Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with TRUTH. . .” (Ephesians 6:11,14)

When asked of the signs of His coming and the end of the age, the very first thing Jesus said in reply was;

“Take heed that no man deceive you.” (Matthew 24:4)

Tehran has raised the ante once more, threatening pre-emptive military strikes against United States armed forces in the region. ‘Pre-emptive’ strikes are those in which they hit us first, BEFORE we can hit them.

“We will not sit [and] wait for what others will do to us. Some military commanders in Iran are convinced that preventive operations that the Americans talk about are not their monopoly,” Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani told Al Jazeera television Wednesday when asked whether Iran would respond to a U.S. attack on its nuclear facilities.

An exchange of threats between Israel and Iran in recent weeks points to a repeat of Israel’s strike against Saddam’s Osirek nuclear reactor in 1981. But in 1981, Israel had just one target, and Iraq was preoccupied with its war with Iran.

The Iranians have scattered their nuclear facilities all over the country, employing hardened shelters, underground facilities and decoys that make it extremely unlikely that Israel could destroy Iran’s nuclear capability in a first strike.

Asked about the possibility of an American or Israeli strike against Iran’s atomic power plant being built by the Russians in Bushehr, Mr. Shamkhani said: “We will consider any strike against our nuclear installations as an attack on Iran as a whole, and we will retaliate with all our strength.”

(Iran is also believed to have the capability to produce a variety of biological and chemical weapons.)

Shamkhani also warned Washington, “Where Israel is concerned, we have no doubt that it is an evil entity, and it will not be able to launch any military operation without an American green light. You cannot separate the two. . . America is not the only one present in the region. We are also present, from Khost to Kandahar in Afghanistan; we are present in the Gulf, and we can be present in Iraq.”

More than a year ago, US Undersecretary for Arms Control John Bolton told the Congress that, “While Iran claims that its nuclear program is peaceful and transparent, we are convinced it is otherwise,” Bolton said.

“One unmistakable indicator of military intent is the secrecy and lack of transparency surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities.”

Iran vigorously denied it then and it still (officially) denies it now, but Iran’s denials are in direct contradiction to Iran’s increasingly bellicose rhetoric and not-too-thinly-veiled threats that it will use nukes before it will lose them.

In June 2004, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi rejected further outside influence on Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

We won’t accept any new obligations,” Kharrazi said. Iran has a high technical capability and has to be recognized by the international community as a member of the nuclear club. This is an irreversible path.

As the 70th year of the Babylonian captivity dawned, the prophet Daniel, having studied the Book of Jeremiah, went to the Lord in prayer, reminding Him of His promise that the captivity would last 70 years.

“In the first year of his [Darius the son of Ahasuerus] reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:” (Daniel 9:2-3)

Daniel records that the angel Gabriel “touched me about the time of the evening oblation”, saying, “I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.”(Dan 9:21-22)

The angel Gabriel revealed instead God’s plan for Israel from the restoration of the Temple to the Crucifixion and finally, Israel’s national restoration in the last days.

Daniel waited three years before again petitioning the Lord about His promise.

Daniel prayed for three full weeks before receiving another visit.

This visit was different. Instead of Gabriel, Daniel received a visit from “a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. . . Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.” (Daniel 10:5-7, 9)

Compare Daniel’s vision with that of the Apostle John’s;

“And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. . . And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead.” (Revelation 1:13-15, 17)

You DO see Who it was that appeared to Daniel, don’t you?

Now that we have identified Daniel’s Visitor, let’s re-examine His visit.

“Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.” (Daniel 10:12-13)

Note several things here. First, the Messenger’s identification — it is clear that He is what theologians call the ‘Christophenes’ the pre-incarnate Christ. The two matching descriptions given by Daniel and of John are NOT coincidental.

Then, there is a message — delivered in code — so to speak. Since the Messenger is Jesus, the reference to His being held up for twenty-one days by the ‘Prince of the kingdom of Persia’ is a coded reference. Clearly, Satan is no match for Jesus.

He told Daniel, “Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.” (10:14)

That is also a coded reference, aimed at the generation that will witness the events being described.

“And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed TILL THE TIME OF THE END. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but THE WISE SHALL UNDERSTAND.” (Daniel 12:8-10)

The Revealing Angel told Daniel that, although He had been held up by the prince of Persia, the archangel Michael came to assist Him. (10:13) Moreover, He told Daniel that, having delivered His message, He would “return to fight with the prince of Persia.” (10:20)

Then there is another coded message in verse 21 — “But I will shew thee that which is noted in the Scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with Me in these things, but Michael your prince.”

Now we’ll try and connect the dots. 10:14 tells us the vision is for ‘Daniel’s people’ and tells us twice it deals with the last days. Daniel 12:8-10 tells us it is encrypted until the generation to whom it was addressed had come. (‘the words are closed up and sealed TILL THE TIME OF THE END’).

The Prince of Persia is responsible for delaying the answer to Daniel’s prayer to be liberated from captivity, and there are but two warriors in the spiritual conflict with the Prince of Persia. One is the pre-incarnate Christ, the other is Michael the archangel, whom Jesus identifies to Daniel as ‘your prince’.

Now we fast forward 2600 years from Daniel to today’s Omega Letter. We find the Persians developing weapons of mass destruction with the help of the Russians and the tactical support of the Islamic world.

The principle targets of the prince of Persia are the State of Israel, (under the spiritual protection of Michael the archangel) and the United States. The US is the only nation to stand with Israel. The only reason that the US DOES stand with Israel is because of the influence of the Church.

For an American president to turn his back on Israel in this generation would be political suicide. And as long as the Church continues to exist in the United States, Israel can be assured of US support.

The Church continues to pray for liberation from captivity through the Rapture. Israel continues to pray for liberation from captivity by the coming of the Messiah.

Jesus is the Head of the Church. Michael is the archangel the Bible identifies as Israel’s protector. And as noted by Iran’s Defense Minister, “You cannot separate the two.”

The vision is for the last days. Persia is modern Iran. The ‘prince’ of modern Iran — its spiritual ruler — is the spirit of Islam.

“Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the WISE SHALL UNDERSTAND.” (Daniel 12:10)

The final conflict on the plains of Megiddo is often called the ‘Battle of Armageddon.” But that is not exactly correct. It is actually a war that concludes on the plains of Megiddo.

And it has already begun.

Europe in the Catbird Seat

Europe in the Catbird Seat
Vol: 35 Issue: 19 Thursday, August 19, 2004

I received an email from a reader in Great Britain who was puzzled by the controversy erupting in this country over the decision to invite the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe [OSCE] to monitor this year’s US presidential election.

Writes my correspondent: “I confess I find myself puzzled by both your argument and your attitude to election monitoring. . . I am sure that I first heard the terms “voting the graveyard” and “Tammany Hall” in a US context. . . Nobody’s act is perfect, so an independent monitor can’t harm. I repeat, monitors do not vote or adjudicate on the vote. There is no loss of sovereignty. . . It seems to me that your argument is mostly wounded pride. So you’re human, so what?”

It seems a valid question. So what if America’s presidential election is monitored by the OSCE to ensure it is fair? Why should that be a big deal? Is it really just ‘wounded pride’ at work here?

The thirteen US Democratic Congressmen who initially asked the UN to monitor this year’s election cited the Election 2000 contest as the reason for the request.

The decision to invite election monitors from Europe by the State Department is widely hailed by the Democrats as a victory, and widely condemned by everybody else in the country as inexplicable stupidity on the part of the Bush administration.

Stupid like a fox. Maybe.

From a strictly tactical political perspective, election monitors will benefit the Bush administration.

There was indeed an attempt to rig the Florida vote — but it was Al Gore and the Democrats — not George Bush — that was behind the effort.

That isn’t a partisan assessment, it is an historical one.

Despite urban legends to the contrary, it was Al Gore who attempted to have Florida’s military absentee ballots disqualified in the courts, even as he droned on in public that; “Every vote should count.”

It was Al Gore who demanded recounts ONLY in counties that leaned heavily to his side. It was Al Gore who fought recounts of Bush-friendly counties in the courts.

It was Al Gore who rescinded his concession speech, tried to have the election results overturned by the courts, and ultimately threw the nation into a state of chaos and nearly forced a Constitutional crisis.

It was Al Gore who forced the election to the Supreme Court, not George Bush. And the Supreme Court did not ‘appoint’ Bush, it ordered the Democrats to respect the results of the balloting.

And following every recount, and a private, post-election recount commissioned by three Florida newspapers, it was George Bush who won the election. It is beyond rational dispute.

In 2003, US citizens living in the state of Florida were asked who they voted for in the 2000 Election as part of the Statistical Abstract Census. The results showed President Bush receiving more than 1000 votes more than Gore.

So it seems at least probable that the State Department invitation to the OSCE was issued by the GOP in an effort to keep the Democrats honest.

And since it was the Democrats who first demanded election monitors, by granting the request, the administration may be providing the bullets necessary for the Democrats to shoot themselves in the foot.

While it might be a savvy election-year political move in this contest, it opens a Pandora’s Box for future US election sovereignty — and it might even backfire in the adminstration’s face during this one.

What if the OSCE finds the US election doesn’t fit its criteria with respect to its principles, which according to the OSCE’s website are; “universality, equality, fairness, secrecy, freedom, transparency, and accountability”? What then?

The OSCE is made up of fifty-seven participating states, including such bastions of freedom and democracy as Albania, Russia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, to name a few. Other members include such friendly US ‘allies’ as France, Germany and Socialist Spain.

It would play very well back home if the Europeans could claim America’s world-famous electoral system was crooked. Just as it would play very well if the American Cowboy were defeated in favor of the Boston Liberal that Europeans are so enamored of.

If this IS a Bush election-year strategy, it is a very risky one. Not just for his campaign, but for America both now, and in future elections.

Still, following the Bible’s outline for the last days, none of this should come as much of a surprise. The prophet Daniel’s prediction of a fifth and final world empire under antichrist clearly indicates that empire will arise out of the revived Roman Empire, symbolized by the ten toes of Nebuchadnezzar’s image.

(Modern Europe, although it has 25 members, still has only TEN full members. All the rest hold either ‘associate’ or ‘observer status’.)

So the fact that the United States has invited Europe to oversee our presidential elections is shocking, but not really surprising.

It is the beginning of America’s slide down the slippery slope to where ever she is when Europe ascends to international supremacy.

Inviting (and trusting) Europe to help choose America’s national leadership is a big step in that direction.

“And when these things BEGIN to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:28)

The Traitors Among Us

The Traitors Among Us
Vol: 35 Issue: 18 Wednesday, August 18, 2004

The National Center for Public Policy Research has posted online an e-mail received from a soldier, Spc. Joe Roche of the 1st Armored Division, who says Michael Moore’s film Fahrenheit 9/11 is “making the rounds” among soldiers at U.S. military bases overseas and is “shocking and crushing soldiers, making them feel ashamed” of their service in Iraq.

Reading the letter brought tears to my eyes. Some excerpts:

“Michael Moore’s film, Fahrenheit 9/11, is making the rounds here at U.S. bases in Kuwait. Some soldiers have received it already and are passing is around. The impact is devastating. Here we are, soldiers of the 1st Armored Division, just days from finally returning home after over a year serving in Iraq, and Moore’s film is shocking and crushing soldiers, making them feel ashamed.

Moore has abused the First Amendment and is hurting us worse than the enemy has. There are the young and impressionable soldiers, like those who joined the Army right out of high school. They aren’t familiar w/ the college-type political debate environment, and they haven’t been schooled in the full range of issues involved. They are vulnerable to being hurt by a vicious film like Moore’s.”

“Specialist Janecek, who is feeling depressed because a close family member is nearing the end of her life, just saw the film today. I saw him in the DFAC. He is devastated. ‘I feel sh***y, ashamed, like this was all a lie.’

Not only is he looking at going straight to a funeral when he returns home, but now whatever pride he felt for serving here has been crushed by Moore’s film. Specialist Everett earlier after seeing the film: ‘You’ll be mad at s**t for ever having come here.’ And there are others.

Mostly the comments are absolute shock at the close connections Moore makes between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family in Saudi Arabia. ‘Bush looks really really REALLY corrupt in this film. I just don’t know what to think anymore,’ is a common comment to hear. Some of these soldiers are darn right ashamed tonight to be American soldiers, to have been apart of this whole mission in Iraq, and are angry over all that Moore has presented in his film.”

“Right now, just days away from what should be a proud and happy return from 15 months of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom, your U.S. soldiers are coming back ashamed and hurt because of Moore’s work.”

“I sometimes want to be mad at my fellow soldiers for being susceptible to Moore’s distortions, but I can’t really blame them. These are good Americans, who have volunteered to serve our country. Nothing says they all have to be experts in Middle Eastern issues and history and politics to serve. That would be silly. …But this is, of course, the vulnerability that Moore has exploited.”

“I wonder how damaging and shocking a Moore project would have been in the 1940s making such a video of Franklin Roosevelt.”

It may take a bit to reach my point, I hope you will bear with me.

During the Second World War, troop morale overseas was deemed to be a matter of national security. Defeatism was not only discouraged, it was censored. The 1st Amendment survived. So did the United States of America.

Combat action reports were heavily censored to prevent useful intelligence from falling into enemy hands. Even personal mail from GI s in the field had to pass the unit censors before being mailed out. American families back home grew used to receiving letters from their husbands and sons with whole lines blacked out by the censors. The 1st Amendment survived. So did the United States of America.

Back home, Hollywood produced propaganda movies, with the propaganda being aimed at raising American morale.

Meanwhile, the enemy broadcast radio messages to Allied troops, using radio announcers like Lord Haw-Haw and Tokyo Rose to try and break US morale. After the war, Lord Haw-Haw (William Joyce) was tried by the British for treason. He was executed on January 3, 1946.

Tokyo Rose (Iva Ikuko Toguri) was tried after the war for treason. She was stripped of her American citizenship, sentenced to ten years in prison, and fined $10,000.

With the Vietnam War, treason became fashionable. What led Lord Haw-Haw to the gallows and put Tokyo Rose in prison put John Kerry in the Senate, for example.

Treason as an indictable crime, has a specific legal definition. But Webster s defines the meaning of treason as follows:

The offense of attempting to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance, or of betraying the state into the hands of a foreign power; disloyalty; treachery.

John Kerry s antiwar activities are a textbook example of a person betraying the state into the hands of a foreign power. Screaming, 1st Amendment privilege, Kerry handed the North Vietnamese all the propaganda they needed to break US morale and ultimately hand Hanoi victory. That is a matter of historical record.

Michael Moore s antiwar documentaries like Fahrenheit 9/11 are further examples of leftist treason, according to Webster s definition. Both Kerry and Moore are guilty of betraying the state into the hands of a foreign power by their conduct. In Kerry s case, the betrayal was complete and the victory went to Hanoi.

In Moore s case, the betrayal is ongoing. Screaming, 1st Amendment privilege, Moore s wild, unproven allegations about the war in Iraq and why we are there is sapping the will of America to stay the course, and, heartbreakingly, the will of the men in harm s way.

Some of these soldiers are darn right ashamed tonight to be American soldiers, to have been apart of this whole mission in Iraq, writes Spc Roche, still in combat in Iraq.

In Spc Roche s letter, one can hear echoes of John Kerry s 1971 question, addressed to the Senate hearing before whom he was testifying; Who wants to be the last man to die for a lost cause in Vietnam?

Stop, for a second, and allow the spin to wind down. Remember where this all began. Saddam Hussein was a vicious dictator who was being propped up by corruption and black marketeering, conducted at the highest levels of UN, France, Germany and Russia.

Prior to 9/11, regime change in Iraq was already a matter of US national policy. After 9/11, removing Saddam (or leaving him in power) could easily have become a matter of national survival. (What was Saddam going to do with that yellowcake uranium from Niger, anyway?)

And every day Saddam was in power, thousands of innocents in Iraq were being butchered. Every day invasion was delayed, thousands more died. Those Iraqis were real people, not just numbers.

Those were the reasons our troops went to Iraq, and they were proud to do it. Those I’ve met who returned from Iraq were filled with a sense of accomplishment and the rightness of their mission.

Michael Moore betrayed them, stole their pride, and instilled in them a sense of futility that may well get some of those who are still in combat killed. Moore knows that — he’s been told by experts.

Treason is evidently no barrier to high office, as John Kerry s candidacy makes clear. And treason is no barrier to wealth, fame and high honors, as Michael Moore s wildly successful enemy propaganda films testify to so eloquently.

To them, America is the enemy, but to their twisted way of thinking, that makes them patriots so say the likes of Michael Moore, John Kerry, Alec Baldwin, Teddy Kennedy, etc., etc.

At the risk of repeating myself, Paul s description of society in the last days bears more than a passing resemblance to our own crumbling social edifice. Consider, for a moment, the platform, tone and spirit of those who represent the American Left.

Picture such faces in your minds eye as John Kerry s, or Michael Moore, or Alec Baldwin, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, Tom Daschle. . . ok, got it?

Now look at what they stand for. Abortion rights. Gay rights. Secular humanism. The suppression of Christianity. Same sex marriages. Children s rights (and the corollary erosion of parental rights) Even UN rights over US sovereign matters like national defense.

Now, look at how they advance their causes. By creating division the two Americas the rich against the poor (class warfare is a technique perfected by the Bolsheviks to overthrow the Czar. It is classical Marxism).

By fomenting civil unrest. By advocating civil disobedience. Recall all the illegal gay marriages performed by elected officials in defiance of the law, for example. (Also classical Marxism)

Let s return to Paul s comments, one more time. Bear with me.

First, the historical context of which Paul is framing his description:

“This know also, that in THE LAST DAYS, perilous times shall come.” Having established the historical context as being in the ‘last days’ Paul describes the social conditions that constitute ‘perilous times’ for the Church in those last days.

“For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.” (2nd Timothy 3:2)

Allow me to paraphrase Paul to illustrate my point (with apologies to the Author). “For men shall supporters of secular humanism, wanting power at all costs, boasters (Was Kerry in Cambodia in 1968?) supporters of the ACLU, supporters of restricting parental rights, unthankful and unholy.”

Without natural affection (gay marriage) trucebreakers (Kerry s promise to bug out of Iraq) false accusers (Bush lied, Bush was AWOL, SWIFT Boat veterans are all partisan liars, etc) incontinent (Teddy Kennedy) fierce (Terry McAullife: Bush was AWOL) despisers of those that are good (GOP taken over by the religious right )

Traitors (see assessment) heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness (Kerry the Catholic believes life begins at conception but supports abortion rights ), but denying the power thereof :(One nation, under God?) . . . to which, Paul warns the Church, from such turn away.

This is not intended as an exhortation for one political party or a condemnation of the other. They stand either condemned or justified on the weight of their own positions.

The point of today s Omega Letter is actually contained in 1 Timothy 1:1.

Before presenting a literal description of the worldview of the America liberal left, Paul opens by saying;

This know also, that IN THE LAST DAYS, perilous times shall come.

Questions, anyone?

“Evil Men and Seducers”

“Evil Men and Seducers”
Vol: 35 Issue: 17 Tuesday, August 17, 2004

Somebody sent me a link to a website whose publisher allegedly claims to expose the errors in the Bible, which he claims are legion.

I read the page and found it to be pretty typical of the genre. I once had a big thick book called, “The Encylopedia of Biblical Errancy” that made the same claims. Interestingly enough, they chose all the same alleged ‘errors’ and made almost the identical mistakes in misreading the Bible text in question.

As I was thumbing through it, I was amused to think that somebody probably worked on this thing for years, staying up late, reading dusty books, drinking too much coffee . . . and this was all he had to show for his efforts.

Bible debunkers get a big kick out of ‘proving’ alleged Biblical contradictions — particularly to new Christians, who are easy prey for these kind of spiritual predators.

This particular website was proudly signed by one Joseph Francis Alward, who devoted his efforts to proving the Bible’s arithmetic doesn’t add up.

Alward introduces his subject, saying, “Because creation lasted six days and God rested on the seventh, the number seven is perhaps the most sacred in the Old Testament.”

“Likewise, he writes, “multiples of seven are part of what Old Testament writers MAY have regarded as a divine arithmetic. Thus, one speaks of a week of days, or a week of years (seven years). The prophet Daniel, for example, predicted that there would be a period of seventy weeks (490 years) from the end of the Babylonian exile until the coming of the Messiah (Daniel 9:24-27)”.

Well, what do you think so far? Do you see where the guy jumps off the cliff in his first two sentences? His case begins on the premise that the number seven is ‘perhaps the most sacred in the Old Testament’ and rests on the assumption that ‘multiples of seven are part of what Old Testament writers MAY have regarded as a divine arithmetic’.

Two assumptions, both wrong, that when added together, invent the Bible ‘fact’ he is about to debunk.

“As we shall see below,” writes Alward, “Matthew, apparently in a misguided belief that Jesus’ genealogy should contain a prophetic numerical pattern based on divine “weeks”, forced Jesus’ genealogy into a grouping of two “weeks” of ancestors, and in so doing, had to omit four names, and count one twice.”

This would be amusing if such trash were not so spiritually deadly. So, as Alward says in his invitation, let’s ‘see below’ (I wonder if that was a Freudian slip?)

“Let us now take a close look at Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus to see how his verses have been deceiving readers for almost two thousand years.” Alward writes, before dropping his bombshell:

“We have taken the genealogy listed in Matthew 1:1-16 and compared it to the genealogy in 1 Chronicles 1:34 – 3:17. Readers who check Chronicles will note that Jacob’s old name, Israel, was used. The names shown in the brackets–Ajaziah, Joash, Amaziah, and Jeohoiakim–appear in Chronicles but not in Matthew.”

Alward is entirely correct in that those four names were omitted by Matthew’s geneology, but that is the only accurate thing contained in his entire ‘refutation’.

Having already added two assumptions about the number 7 to create a ‘fact’ he bolsters that ‘fact’ with yet a THIRD assumption, then a fourth, until he has invented his own doctrine.

“The generations from Abraham to David are, indeed, fourteen, just as Matthew said. But, the second group of names poses a problem for Matthew. The Old Testament shows that from David until the carrying away into Babylon are eighteen generations, not fourteen.”

Having discovered this ‘secret’ that Alward evidently believes went unnoticed for two thousand years or more, he continues;

“The four names in the brackets seem to have been deliberately snipped out of the list by someone, perhaps Matthew, perhaps to fit the imagined or hoped-for prophecy pattern. It is not as if these men were insignificant; two of them–Ahaziah and Jehoiakim–were kings.”

Alward assumes the four names were ‘snipped’ by ‘perhaps’ Matthew, ‘perhaps’ to fit what he ASSUMES IS an ‘imagined or hoped for prophecy pattern’ contained in the three groups of fourteen.

Alward continues to build his house of cards carefully, so that they’ll fall apart easily when he is ready to ‘prove’ his alleged ‘case’.

“We will perhaps never know whether Matthew deliberately omitted the four names from his genealogy, or whether the sources upon which he based his writings were incomplete or faked,” concludes Alward.

“Either way, it is evident that there were not, as Matthew asserts, fourteen generations from David to the time of the exile into Babylon; there were eighteen.”

Alward explains away some unheard-of ‘inerrantist’ (presumably a Christian?) that he quotes on his website, so that he can pick the ‘explanation apart.

And he goes on, from false assumptions right on through to misrepresenting the facts already in evidence. .

“Thus, according to this fundamentalist’s logic, it would have been legitimate for Matthew, for example, to have made a list of fourteen names beginning with Adam and ending with Jesus and claimed that “there are fourteen generations between Adam and Jesus” (there are actually dozens).”

Dozens? Let’s see. 14 + 4 (the four omitted names) comes to, ummm, 18?

Out of his carefully constructed collection of assumptions and misrepresentations, Alward smugly concludes; “This is an obvious contrivance, invented to hide evidence which clearly shows that the Bible is in error.”

One of the difficulties in debating with such folks is the rule of law. You have to obey it, and they don’t. The Bible is a book of law.

You are bound by what it says, whereas your debate opponent gets to make up anything he wants to rebutt your point. How many times have you heard somebody say, “But, doesn’t the Bible say. . ” when it doesn’t, but that doesn’t seem to make any difference to them?

That is one reason guys like this can sound so convincing.

Alward takes as his ‘proof text’ Matthew 1:17

“So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.”

As Alward correctly noted, Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah, and Jeoiakim were excluded by Matthew in his geneology. But Alward’s case was built on the assumption it was to make the generations come out to fourteen for some mystical reason. Nowhere else in Scripture does this alleged fourteen-year “prophetic pattern” find any support.

Alward just made it up so that he could ‘disprove’ it. (Not very honest for an alleged seeker of truth.)

What’s the real story? Why WERE those four names omitted? Was Matthew trying to doctor the text to make Jesus seem more Divine, as Alward claims?

‘Disproving’ Scripture takes a lot of contorting and explaining. Truth is much simpler.

According to the Law in Deuteronomy 29:20 the names of idolaters are to be ‘blotted out’ forever in Israel.

Being true to the Law (as Matthew was), Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah, and Jeoiakim were all omitted since they were idol worshippers who had ritually corrupted the people of Judah. Matthew merely followed Jewish Law as was customarily observed by religious Jews of the time. Nothing contrived about that.

Alward assumes Matthew omitted four names to make it ‘come out right’ to prove Jesus’ Divinity. But Matthew’s geneology was intended to establish in the mind of the Jewish reader Christ’s legal right to the throne of David. A right descending from Father to Son. And adopted or not, Jesus was the legal heir to that throne.

Matthew wanted to make the Jews dealt with that fact. It’s as simple as that.

But guys like Alward can’t see it, which, ironically, strengthens the case for Biblical inerrancy. “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.” (1 Corinthians 1:27)

Note this well. In the course of weaving his web, he created a doctrine of his own making, which is what made it so easy to pick apart. But all the while, it sounds like he is disproving the Bible, instead.

It is the mission in life for such people to convince others that the Bible is wrong, and there is no God. They are as fervent in their desire to win converts as are Christians, without ever realizing why. Their mission isn’t, as they suppose, ‘self-appointed’ — they just think it is.

The most effective agents the enemy has don’t even know who they are working for. And if they can, they will lead you down the path of assumption to the streets of doubt before you know it.

The very first sentence of the very first Psalm gives the formula for understanding; “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

Note the progression; Walking, standing, sitting. That is exactly what happens to new Christians who get blindsided by such enemy tricks as Alward’s website, or the presumptuously named ‘Encyclopedia of Biblical Errancy’.

We are in the fight of the millennium, a spiritual battle so intense it is about to spill out into our universe. Our only real weapon, Paul tells us, is the “Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17)

The enemy’s tactic is to make us doubt the strength and sharpness of our Sword, so that our faith in it falters during the coming battle. The only way to combat this tactic is to have faith in the Word. Especially when it is under assault.

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (Ephesians 6:16)

God’s Word WILL stand all tests. Count on it.

“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)

The Prosperity of Fools

The Prosperity of Fools

Three polls conducted by the Washington Post this year asked Kerry supporters if they were planning to vote for John Kerry because they wanted him to be president, or if they planned to vote for Kerry in order to defeat George Bush.

The first poll, conducted on March 7, found that 61% of voters who planned to vote for Kerry were doing so simply because of their opposition to George Bush.

A second poll, conducted in mid-May, asked the same question, and found that number unchanged at 61%. By June, those who opposed Bush more than they supported Kerry dropped to 55%.

Not wanting their pro-Kerry bias to show too broadly, the Post also put the same question to Bush supporters. Only 13%, 11% and 16% (respectively) of Bush supporters said they were going to vote primarily to prevent Kerry from winning the election.

What these results indicate is that most Kerry supporters would vote for ANY candidate other than Bush, regardless of his/her policy positions, political record or personal history. With that in mind, it s easy to understand why none of Kerry’s supporters are particularly troubled by accusations surrounding Kerry’s Vietnam War experiences, post-war escapades, and notably unproductive political career.

John Kerry’s background has already produced enough radioactive information to sink the campaign of any Republican candidate. More than enough. Republican Jack Ryan’s Illinois senatorial campaign was destroyed by a single accusation that came to light with the release of Ryan’s 12 year-old California divorce records.

It seems that, during the divorce, Ryan was accused by his then-wife, actress Jeri Ryan, of suggesting they to go to some kind of ‘sex club’. They didn’t go, and, (obviously) the suggestion was enough to torpedo the marriage.

Evidently, that was it. Now that’s not to say I support either sex clubs or Jack Ryan. Put that thought aside for a minute, since it is a ‘straw man’ argument to begin with.

The relevant issue here is that all it took was a SUGGESTION of immorality emanating from records of a DIVORCE. Accusations from a spouse seeking a divorce are not exactly on the same category of reliability as a deathbed confession — in divorces, sometimes, people lie. And in any case, a spouse seeking a divorce seldom frames the other spouse in the most favorable light.

Within days of Ryan’s 1992 California divorce records going public, Ryan was forced to drop out of the race, allowing his Democratic challenger to run for office unopposed. (The GOP has since imported Alan Keyes to run as their candidate, but he hasn’t a snowball’s chance in you-know-where of winning)

The Washington Post polls explain why Kerry could survive the SWIFT Boat Veterans for Truth, his past voting record in the Senate, issues about his character and even divorcing his wife to marry the wealthier Teresa Heinz, while the details of Jack Ryan’s twelve-year-old divorce struck a deathblow to his candidacy.

Democrats don’t care. They truly, madly, deeply, despise George Bush — Howdy Doody, Bozo the Clown, John Kerry or Rex, the Wonder Horse — it doesn’t really matter who wins provided that it is anybody but Bush.

Watch the talking-heads programs — any Democrat who makes an appearance to defend Kerry’s background ends up doing it by focusing exclusively on what they perceive to be the trouble with George W. Bush.

Anyone who dares to question Kerry’s background, from his admission that he himself committed war crimes, to his subsequent antiwar activities, to his various lies and misrepresentations (where was John Kerry on Christmas Eve, 1968, anyway?) is immediately subjected to a barrage of insults and an organized campaign of character assassination.

In the case of the SWIFT boat veterans, their credentials, including their own Silver Stars, Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts, not to mention the impressive number of admirals and senior Navy officers among their number, etc., are dismissed out of hand. Instead, they are cast in the role of right-wing fanatics that are either motivated by partisanship or are still angry with Kerry for labeling them war criminals and baby killers.

Among those “fanatics” that leftists have derided, and whose scandalous assertions about John Kerry they’ve dismissed out of hand, are: Rear Admiral Roy Hoffmann (commander of Kerry’s task force in Vietnam), Grant Hibbard (Kerry’s former commanding officer), George Elliot (another of Kerry’s former commanding officers), John O’Neill (the commander who replaced Kerry on his swift boat), and almost all the officers who appeared in a Kerry campaign photograph claiming them as Kerry’s ‘band of brothers’.

Of the 19 officers in that photograph, one supports Kerry, four have no opinion, and the rest are members of the SWIFT Boat Veterans for Truth. In fact, less than ten percent of all SWIFT Boat Veterans contacted by the group failed to join.

In all, the organization has some 250 members who oppose Kerry’s candidacy, compared with eight who support him. (And travel with him on the campaign trail at Kerry’s expense)

It seems extremely unlikely that EVERY ONE of these veterans is a Republican. It is even more unlikely that they would all be such staunch supporters of George Bush, (since Bush never even went to Vietnam in the first place.)

The suggestion that they would all conspire to spread false allegations typifies the view from the Left. As far as the Left is concerned, ‘honor’ is a commodity to be bought and sold, so why would these men be any different?

The Left had already sacrificed whatever honor it had during the Election 2000 debacle. In their own eyes, the only way to regain it will be by defeating Bush this time around. For that reason, they’ve turned a blind eye to the history of a man who might well be the next leader of the free world, and whether or not he may prove to be pathological liar, a war criminal or a traitor is of no interest to them whatsoever.

The collective win-at-any-cost mindset of these people is as shameful as anything John Kerry may have done, and the hatred they exhibit toward George W. Bush is more than just substantial, it’s practically pathological.

The Left has taken a page right out of Scripture and adopted it as their campaign strategy:

“How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Turn you at My reproof: behold, I will pour out My Spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out My hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all My counsel, and would none of My reproof:” (Proverbs 1:22-25)

So far their strategy appears to be working, but only if one is completely oblivious to the ongoing war against Islamic terrorism, as the Kerry campaign appears to be. In that context, the rest of the passage takes on even greater significance.

“I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; Then shall they call upon Me, but I will not answer; they shall seek Me early, but they shall not find Me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of My counsel: they despised all My reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. FOR THE TURNING AWAY OF THE SIMPLE SHALL SLAY THEM, AND THE PROSPERITY OF FOOLS SHALL DESTROY THEM.” (Proverbs 1:26-32)

Claiming the Promise

I don’t think that there is anything more awesome than watching the Lord answer prayer. The power of prayer cannot be understated, although it often is.

In yesterday’s Omega Letter, I asked you to pray for all those who had been devastated in Florida, and also for all those who remained in Charley’s path.

Last week, as Hurricane Alex approached, the old hands down here were pretty nonchalant about it — but Hurricane Charley had them worried. It had already ripped up Florida before going back out to sea — an event that could have re-energized the storm before it turned back inland.

As I watched Charley’s path, I could almost feel the power of the prayer warriors who were petitioning the Throne. In my mind’s eye, I could visualize the Hand of God turning Charley abruptly inland where it could weaken instead of allowing it to stay offshore until it reconstituted itself.

Charley remained a hurricane when it arrived along the Carolina coast, traveling at more than 30 mph. By the time it struck our neighborhood, Charley’s maximum sustained winds were still hurricane force. But inexplicably, those winds caused no damage. Charley rained for all he was worth, dumping more than a half inch per hour.

But because Charley was moving so fast, a half-hour was about as long as Charley stayed in any one place. None of the old hands around here had seen anything like it.

Some ten years back, Gayle and I had to make a cross country trip from Los Angeles, where we had been working with Hal on a project, back to the East Coast. We were going to make the trip driving a 28′ rented moving van.

A massive storm was making its way across the center of the country, and there was no way to avoid it. High winds and heavy rains were forecast from the Rockies to the Pennsylvania border — and I don’t like driving in the mountains anyway — even in a car.

Driving an unfamiliar 28′ truck that handled high winds like it was a billboard while on rain-slicked highways seemed almost suicidal — but we’d already rented the truck and didn’t have a lot of choice. So we prayed.

As we prayed, I thought of how absurd it all seemed. It was a monstrous September storm, if one was driving through it, but it was also bringing rain to thousands of farmers, replenishing depleted water tables across the nation, and generally maintaining the ecological balance of mid-America.

And here we were praying that it would stop — just for us. It was ridiculous, and I acknowledged that fact before the Lord as we prayed. But we prayed anyway, and so did our colleagues at Hal’s ministry, as did the prayer warriors of our adopted church.

And off we went. For 2700 miles, it rained behind us. It rained in front of us, but the roads ahead had mostly begun to dry as we crossed them. I recall at one point as we were crossing the mountains in Missouri, it was raining — hard — on the opposite side of the interstate, but not a drop fell on our side of the median.

The wind gusts were horrendous, but manageable on the dry roads. All in all, it was nothing short of miraculous. Over four days and 2700 miles, the storms raged from one coast to the other. But the very first time we had to turn on the windshield wipers, we were fourteen miles from home.

Although I felt it was absurd to ask God to do something for me that would affect millions of other people, we prayed anyway — and God answered. The storm raged all around us, but never quite over us for the entire trip.

Although Hurricane Charley hit our little coastal town on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, and although Charley was packing enough wind and rain to do significant damage, the storm was moving just fast enough, and the winds were coming from just the right direction to prevent Charley from being anything more than a briefly violent thunderstorm.

I marvel at the fact that, from the moment I asked for prayer for those in Charley’s path, Hurricane Charley — the worst storm to hit the East Coast since 1992’s Hurricane Andrew — became a tempest in a teapot.

And I directly credit your prayers and God’s faithfulness in answering them. Hurricane Charley’s harmless passage across our state was no less miraculous than our own dry passage across country in September, 1994.

The Scriptures remind us that, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:” (2Corinthians 9:8).

Moreover, Paul admonishes us to; “Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1st Thessalonians 5:17-18)

And Paul also reminds us; “Faithful is He that calleth you, Who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

Our prayer warriors still have much to do. Florida remains flattened and devastated, and there are many there who need God’s provision, protection, and, more importantly, that ‘peace of God which surpasseth all understanding’.

Please continue to put your petitions before the Throne of Grace for the victims of Hurricane Charley. Allow God to display His Majesty and grace — He displays it for our edification.

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the Name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the Name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:13)

John tells us that we can trust Jesus to answer our prayers, according to His will, reminding us;

“And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” (1 John: 14-15)

God answers prayers to give us confidence in Him, to demonstrate His power and His glory, and to prove His love for us. And so we will use it according to His will.

Note that John says, “If we ask anything according to His will” that we can confidently “KNOW we have the petitions we desired of Him”.

Herein lies one of the most important truths of Scripture, and the most under-utilized by Christians who sometimes forget Who is in charge. John promises — PROMISES — that if we ask according to His will, we can KNOW He will grant our petition. But how can we know what God’s will is, for sure?

Consider this nugget of Scripture and connect the dots.

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not WILLING that ANY SHOULD PERISH, but that ALL should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

There! Do you see it? Do you have an unsaved loved one? Somebody who won’t listen, doesn’t want to listen, doesn’t want to hear it? Maybe somebody who won’t even talk to you anymore?

God’s expressly stated will is for that person to come to repentance. And His promise is that if we ask according to His will, He will grant our petition.

The power of prayer can turn aside the rain; but not because I am special to God above the needs of others who want the rain. Rather, God granted my prayer in such a unique and miraculous way so that I could tell others and encourage them. And so that I could have the honor of giving God the glory.

God didn’t muzzle Hurricane Charley for me — He did it to encourage YOU when you pray. He wants us to know that He is still on the Throne and intimately concerned with the affairs of men. And God doesn’t want your loved ones to perish, but to come to repentance.

Jesus said, “No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44)

And so it is with your unsaved loved ones. Stop hitting your head against the wall and try hitting your knees against the floor.

Pray that the Father draw them to the Son, and claim His promise of a miracle.

Jesus promises, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

The Lord Jesus also issues this iron-clad guarantee: “All that the Father giveth Me SHALL come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37)

Trust God. Claim the Promise.

And don’t forget, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Waiting for Charley . . .

Waiting for Charley . . .
Vol: 35 Issue: 14 Saturday, August 14, 2004

Residents of Florida’s Gulf Coast are cleaning up this morning after Hurricane Charley ripped into it as a Category Four storm packing winds of more than 145 mph.

At least seven are known dead, and the death toll is expected to continue to rise as the day goes on and people dig themselves out of the rubble. Hundreds of people were missing in Charlotte on Florida’s Gulf Coast and thousands were left homeless.

The damage in the wake of Charley is already being compared to the devastation caused by 1992’s Hurricane Andrew. Andrew killed 26 people, most in South Florida, and was the most costly natural disaster in US history.

Charley isn’t finished yet. Although it lost considerable strength while over land, the storm went back out to sea where it is currently picking up more steam.

The most recent National Weather Service forecasts say that by the time Hurricane Charley hits the North Carolina coast, he is expected to be packing maximum sustained winds of less than 100 miles an hour, provided he doesn’t pick up more strength over the Atlantic first.

At the time of this writing, Charley is packing 85 mph winds with higher gusts mainly to the east of the center. Since the center is supposed to pass to the west of us, I guess that puts us ‘east of the center’ where the higher gusts will be.

We are going to ride the storm out here on the island, mainly because there isn’t anyplace else to go. We are in a strongly-built house on the high ground, (although 20 feet above sea level isn’t all that high) and we have our windows boarded up.

Charley is already making his presence felt here, although he remains some five hours away — we’ve already seen some substantial wind gusts and rainfall.

So why the weather report? There are a couple of reasons. The first is the most obvious. When I turned on the TV this morning, I saw the devastation Charley caused in Florida; tall buildings shattered like toothpicks, neighborhoods literally destroyed, images of death and destruction everywhere.

After seeing all that, the forecaster announced we are Charley’s probable next target. So Hurricane Charley is sort of on my mind.

The second is to ask you to pray, first for all those Charley has already touched, and then for those now in his path.

It occurred to me that, knowing that all things work together for good, and that God protects us all, and, that the worst thing that can happen to me is that I might go to heaven — I d rather not go right now. Which brings to mind the old adage, ‘Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.’

It isn’t that I am afraid that Charley is gonna get me — he’s lost considerable strength, and, as I noted, we are in a pretty secure shelter. But the pictures from Florida shook me, and that is the topic of this morning’s Omega Letter.

Why is it that, despite being a Christian, I am no more eager for death than your average secular Joe? Poor ol’ unsaved Joe has no idea what awaits him at death — will he come back as a butterfly? Will he just cease to exist for all time? Then, there is always all that Christian stuff about hell to worry about. Because if you don’t know for, then you don’t KNOW at all.

But I DO know, for sure, beyond any shadow of any doubt, that if Charley were to bite off my head on his way by, I’d be in heaven before you could say, “Duck!”

Still, while not fearing BEING dead, I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t the least bit concerned about how I GET that way.

I suspect it is the same for most Christians. Death is the curse of the Fall. “For as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12)

There is another old adage to the effect that ‘the one thing you can be sure of is that you won’t get out of it alive’ — it goes hand-in-hand with the one about ‘the only two sure things are death and taxes’.

According to the Bible, there is one generation that shall not taste death.

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)

Every day, we document evidence that proves that we ARE that generation. There are people alive today who will never suffer the curse of Adam. The Bible says that, at the Rapture, ‘death is swallowed up in victory’.

For death to be defeated, there must be people upon whom its curse has no effect. We ARE the generation of whom Paul wrote:

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.”

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)

Ok, Charley, bring it on! We’re ready for you!

”In the Days of These Kings. . .”
Vol: 35 Issue: 13 Friday, August 13, 2004

One of the things that defines America is the transparency and fairness of its political process. Even the efforts to overturn the results of Election 2000, with its interminable counts and recounts, resulted, at the end of the day, with a peaceful, if not pleasant, transfer of power.

Thus has it always been, and, as a consequence, America has always rightfully boasted that it enjoys the freest and most transparent electoral process on earth. It is the model for fledgling democracies, and is the gold standard against which all other political systems are measured.

So, when thirteen Democratic congressmen asked the United Nations Human Rights Commission to monitor the US presidential election like America was some Third World country, the request was so seemingly off-the-wall that even Kofi Annan rejected it.

The Gang of Thirteen then took their request for foreign election monitors to the US State Department. Astonishingly, the Colin Powell State Department agreed to invite the The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to send monitors, ostensibly to make sure that nobody steals this election, as Al Gore attempted to do in 2000.

Yup, these are sure the guys to invite to ensure America’s political interests are protected; besides Britain and Italy, OSCE members include Saddam sympathizers like France and Germany, nations with sham democracies like Russia and Albania, and states like Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, who see Islamic Sharia Law as the ideal form of government.

On hearing of the State Department decision, Rep. Bernice Johnson, leader of the Congressional gang of traitors, applauded surrendering our political sovereignty over to the Europeans, saying, “The American public has been recently reminded by Michael Moore s Fahrenheit 9/11 that the 2000 presidential election was rife with fraud and deception.”

Did you catch that? Representative Johnson and her crew — together with the US State Department, advocate violating 228 years of American electoral sovereignty, based on the rantings of an anti-American screwball like Michael Moore!

I’m not making this up! (I wish I were. Sigh)

In his Farewell Address, George Washington warned the fledgling nation he founded;

“The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is, in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop. … constantly keeping in view that it is folly in one nation to look for disinterested favors from another; that it must pay with a portion of its independence for whatever it may accept under that character; that by such acceptance it may place itself in the condition of having given equivalents for nominal favors, and yet being reproached with ingratitude for not giving more. There can be no greater error than to expect or calculate upon real favors from nation to nation. It is an illusion which experience must cure, which a just pride ought to discard.”

Violating that Great Rule of Conduct has cost America dearly in the past, but never has it been as egregiously violated as it will be during Election 2004.

First, let’s identify the thirteen Democratic Congressmen who so cavalierly dismissed President Washington’s warning about ‘foreign entanglements.’

Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas, Julia Carson of Indiana, Jerrold Nadler, Edolphus Towns, Joseph Crowley and Carolyn B. Maloney, all of New York, Raul Grijalva of Arizona, Corrine Brown of Florida, Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, Danny K. Davis of Illinois, and Michael M. Honda and Barbara Lee of California.

The refusal by Kofi Annan to interfere with America’s electoral process wasn’t enough for these traitorous partisans — there is no indignity too great to heap on America’s image, if it means defeating George W. Bush.

Do you think that ‘indignity’ is too strong a word? I don’t.

“Let me get this straight,” asks Joe Mariani, writing in “A group of Democrats want to bring some people from countries like North Korea, Iran, Syria, China and Cuba people that have never seen a democratic election in their lifetimes to sit in judgment on our elections? What kind of voodoo politics is that? The last time a foreign body had any direct influence over the political process of this country, the situation was corrected by a war for our freedom from British rule. Are these so-called Americans so willing to surrender that hard-won right of self-determination now, and to such a shamelessly scandal-ridden group of anti-American dictatorships and terrorist sympathizers? We may as well dissolve the Union now and save ourselves the pain of watching it done for us.”

Tom Kilgannon, president of Freedom Alliance, said of the Gang of Thirteen, “Your appeal . . .is alarming and embarrassing,” he said. “As a Member of Congress sworn to uphold the Constitution and represent the people of the United States, it is disturbing, to say the least, that you would entrust the most sacred act of American democracy our presidential election to an international institution, which is unaccountable to the American people and mired by scandal and corruption.”

Kilgannon rightly said that the request; “undermines U.S. sovereignty, demoralizes American servicemen who are fighting to build democratic governments abroad and sends the message worldwide that the United States is nothing more than a Third World nation unable to police itself.”

On top of that, it is based on a lie. Johnson and her fellow traitors insist that the OSCE monitors play particular attention to Florida, where they continue to claim the election was stolen from Al Gore by the Bush campaign.

Historical note for the intellectually challenged: At no point during Election 2000 or its embarrassing aftermath was George Bush ever behind in Florida. When the Supreme Court put an end to Gore’s efforts to overturn the election results, Bush was ahead by 537 votes. Not much of a majority, but enough.

A post-election recount conducted by USA Today and the Miami Herald in 2000 showed that had the recount ordered by the Florida court continued, Bush would have carried the state by 1,665 votes. (For the record, both USA Today and the Miami Herald endorsed Al Gore and opposed George Bush)

As of 2004, American elections will no longer be a free and impartial exercise of the sovereign American franchise. The Gang of Thirteen sold it to the Europeans, with the help of a politically-correct but intellectually-challenged State Department.

What will be next? What if the OSCE (most of whom have already expressed a preference for Kerry), decide to disqualify some of the ballots? Who will make the final determination?

If Kerry loses Election 2004, will the partisan traitors petition the World Court to overturn the election results? Will they invite the UN in to determine voter eligibility?

The Bible speaks of the coming global government of the antichrist, which the prophet Daniel identifies as arising out of the revived Roman Empire symbolized by the two legs of iron in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. (Daniel 2:41-43)

“And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.” (Daniel 2:44)

Nowhere is there mention of a vast superpower resembling America in the pages of Scripture for the last days. It is no coincidence that, in this generation, it grows increasingly difficult to find any mention of a superpower resembling America in the liberal mainstream press, either.

But the Scriptures DO mention most of the countries who make up the OSCE and the role that THEY play in the last days;

“And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.” (Daniel 2:44)

Special Member’s Report: Combat Sit-Rep

Special Member’s Report: Combat Sit-Rep
Vol: 35 Issue: 12 Thursday, August 12, 2004

We must be doing something right, because we are encountering stiff enemy resistance on almost all fronts. I thought today it would be appropriate to give you the latest combat situation report from the field.

“Remember the Word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.” (John 15:20)

That is not to say that anybody is getting ready to ship me off to prison or break my windows or beat me up. I am not being ‘persecuted’ — that’s what happens to civilians — the Omega Letter is a combat vehicle — so what we are experiencing is more accurately termed an enemy counteroffensive.

Since the Omega Letter made its debut on October 14, 2001, the Omega Letter has experienced some pretty bizarre obstacles. (Being forced to immigrate to America in order to keep publishing still strikes me as ‘bizarre’. Under Canadian law, the Omega Letter fits the definition of ‘hate literature’)

And there’s more. America Online still won’t deliver our mail. AOL automatically shifts the Omega Letter to the spam box, and in some cases, rejects it entirely.

Yesterday, I received an email from someone with an AOL return email address in which we were discussing abortion. Evidently, either the phrase ‘pro-abortion’ or my signature, ‘In Christ’ in my reply was enough to trigger AOL’s spam filters — the email came back to me, marked ‘rejected by the recipient’.

Additionally, I received an email from a subscriber, just this morning, that said the following:

“Dear Jack,

Just wanted to let the OL daily briefing know, that the AOL news piece regarding emails with Christian content not being sent to the email recipient, is alive and well in Raleigh, NC.

Talked to my daughter who has AOL, and I have been sending the briefing to her for like a month and a half. Asked her this morning if she had been reading it, and she told me she has never received not one single issue.

I asked if she was sure…she said yes. She said that it doesn’t even go into her junk mail folder. . . Just wanted to let you all know.

Sincerely, Linda”

So, evidently, it isn’t just me, and it isn’t an aberration. It is deliberate.

We had similar problems with other ISPs, like EarthLink (owned by the Church of Scientology), and a number of smaller ISPs with whom Mike has done battle over the years.

You’d think that the Omega Letter was hard-core porn, if it weren’t for the fact hard-core porn seems to sail right through most ISP spam filters. Obscenity-laced offers from sickos wanting to entice me to visit their webcams show up in my email box a half-dozen times a day.

The porn messages manage to bypass my ISP (RoadRunner) without too much trouble — but RoadRunner was among the ISP’s that Mike had to do battle with in the early days in order to convince them to deliver the Omega Letter to our subscribers.

The latest assault has been launched against us by our Merchant Solution provider,

We received an email from (with whom we’ve been doing business for over two years) telling us that,

“Due to the recent changes in our Prohibited Products Listing” following risk utilization analysis it has been determined that we can no longer support donation payments. As the reseller we will support only those sites that offer a service or product. Donations will no longer be permitted.

This e-mail serves as your 2-week notice that we will no longer be accepting donations through your 2Checkout account.

Be advised that you should remove any donation payment links for 2Checkout, and that after this two-week period any donation payments for this account will be cancelled.

Regards,, Inc.”

I replied to the email, asking why we would suddenly be singled out after two years. Especially since the 2Checkout admin page STILL makes the following offer:

“Want to accept donations for your site? Click here to grab code snippets to add to your site.” Clicking on the ‘here’ link creates a donation button, so what gives?

I asked that of my correspondent at 2Checkout:

“You didn’t explain why you continue to offer a donation snippet on the admin page. “Want to accept donations for your site? Click here to grab code snippets to add to your site . Is it because we are a Christian website that prompts you to try and ruin us?”

2Checkout’s Mosborne’s reply was interesting: “All vendors for whom we have previously been accepting donations are being told the same thing. We simply can no longer accept donations. It has nothing to do with whether you are a Christian web site or any other kind of web site. The pages at will be updated.”

(Really? I just checked. The pages haven’t been updated. Anybody else can still go collect the donation snippet for THEIR sites. Just not ours)

In exasperation, I emailed back saying;

“We will let you know when we have transferred all our subscribers to a different merchant service provider, at which time we will close out our account. Continuing to do business with 2Checkout under these restrictions would put us out of business.

The reply from 2Checkout was EXACTLY as follows:

“Thank you,

There are literally tens of thousands of websites that solicit donations to help cover operating expenses — 2Checkout is one of the largest e-merchant solutions out there.

But according to 2Checkout’s email to us, they don’t want our kind of business. A suggestion that we take our business elsewhere prompted a ‘thank you’ from 2Checkout. Mission accomplished.

I did a quick Google search. Here are some of 2Checkout’s clients who collect donations through 2Checkout:

* Dollars for Dachshunds.

* Small Wonders [Animal] Rescue.

* Children’s Cancer Programs.

* Parent to Parent of Miami.

* The Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities.

* Burn Survivors Throughout the World.

* Tanya’s Kidney Transplant Fund.

* The Lawrence Independent Living Resource Center for People with Disabilities.

Since all these sites use 2Checkout to process donations, 2Checkout is evidently not interested in collecting 5% plus from each of these websites.

Not to mention the fact that Tanya won’t get her kidney. Dachshunds will go broke. Children with cancer will have to some up with a new source of revenue. Parents in Miami won’t get to meet. Burn survivors throughout the world will have to get used to it.

And in Lawrence, people with disabilities will have to learn to live independently some other way. Or, the Omega Letter has been singled out, for as the very first email from 2Checkout said; “the Omega Letter has been placed on 2Checkout’s ‘prohibited product list’.”

The Omega Letter exists by subscription and by voluntary donation. I’ll let you in on a bit of secret business information.

The Omega Letter has NEVER had more than 400 paying subscribers, although it reaches thousands every day through other newsletters and private email lists. The enemy knows how wide the OL reaches, and he knows that donations are the backbone of our revenue stream.

(Putting out the Omega Letter is a full-time job for three people — plus software, server rentals, bandwidth, not to mention time — do the math. There’s no much left over to pay the full-time help)

Over the last two years, 2Checkout has collected thousands of dollars in credit card fees from us — the majority of which come from donations. Suddenly, out of the blue, they claim they have simply decided to cut that revenue stream from their business portfolio. Doesn’t make sense, does it?

You know what is contained in the Omega Letter. So you have a pretty good idea, as do we, what got the Omega Letter moved to the ‘prohibited products list’.

It has been clear from the start that the Omega Letter has been a prime enemy target. We’ve documented various egregious attacks over the years, but not all of them. (We’d sound like paranoid looneys if we did)

Understand me, here. These attacks are not against us personally — they are against the Omega Letter. The enemy doesn’t seem to like it, and does everything he can to keep us under wraps.

ISP’s won’t deliver the Omega Letter. Our internet connections keep suddenly going dead without explanation. And now our ability to conduct commerce on the internet is suddenly being curtailed — for no apparent reason. (Unless you really believe that will allow Dachshunds to go broke and force Tanya to do without a new kidney)

AND, for the first time since 1906, the first three named storms of the season will make landfall on the East Coast. Alex already hit us, and Bonnie and Charlie are pointed right at us. [OK, so THAT’S paranoid! 🙂 ]

The enemy thinks he has us, but we’ll win this battle. We are working on a solution to our problem. We are searching out alternative ecommerce solution providers. We will keep you posted. But we will have a dry spell while we make the changes.

The enemy can’t win, but that doesn’t stop him from bringing the battle to our doorstep. We will continue to fight back.

Each of you knows what the Omega Letter means to you in your own personal walk with Christ, and how useful it is to your personal evangelistic efforts. We are under attack, and we need your prayers (and financial support) while we rebuff the enemy effort to shoot the messenger before the message can be delivered.

2Checkout will continue to process donations for us for nine more days, until August 20. After that, we will only be able to process subscriptions until we have secured a new ecommerce solution.

It will take longer than nine days to set up an alternative solution, let along do all the subscriber base transfers. And the setup fees will take another bite out of us.

There are lean times ahead, but God knows what He is doing, and why. Our job is to, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)

So that’s our situation report. These constant attacks are wearing, and sometimes disheartening. But it serves to confirm one thing to us. We must be doing something right, so together, we’ll keep fighting the war.

Until He comes.
