‘Pravda’ Means ‘Truth’

‘Pravda’ Means ‘Truth’
Vol: 26 Issue: 20 Thursday, November 20, 2003

Tens of thousands of protestors are expected to descend on London to protest President Bush’s presence and the war with Iraq. Meanwhile, Bush is taking a vicious pounding in the international press.

Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald reported a effigy of President Bush that demonstrators intend to pull down in a parody of the toppling of Saddam’s statue under the headline, “Bush to be Cut Down to Size on London Visit”.

Russia’s Pravda described the protests as “The Writing on the Wall” for George Bush. According to Russia’s premiere news outlet, “The massive security operation in London to protect George Bush, the lies and reiteration of lies and Washington’s acts of butchery in Iraq spell a clear message to the President of the United States of America.”

Remember, in Russian, ‘Pravda’ means ‘truth’. Until the fall of the Soviet regime, ‘Pravda’ was the official state newspaper of the Soviet Union. In any case, here’s how Russia sees George Bush.

“In three years, George W. Bush and his odious regime have managed to destroy the carefully-built climate of trust between the USA and the international community, to create the most venomous anti-American feeling the planet has ever known, to drive a wedge between the USA and the British public, traditionally the country’s closest friends and to tear apart the tissue which bound the international community together in a framework of international law and norms, based upon dialogue, discussion and debate, in the proper forum, the UNO.”

Domestic coverage wasn’t much kinder. The Boston Globe headlined Bush’s speech in London this way; “High Ideals, Few Specifics.”

The London Daily Mail compared Bush’s visit with “the last time a cowboy came to see the Queen” – when Buffalo Bill entertained Queen Victoria with his Wild West Show.

While President Bush asked his British audience if anybody seriously believed the world was a better place before the fall of Saddam, protestors outside carried signs saying, “Bush, Butcher of Baghdad” and “Bush: Worlds #1 Terrorist”.

One protester with a bullhorn shouted, “If you think Bush is a moron, yell `Retard.'”

A much different position was taken by the London Sunday Times. It reminded its readers that what the demonstrators were protesting was the removal of Saddam Hussein. All the old reasons for protesting are now moot.

There is a clear connection between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda. While the protestors might be able to argue, barring discovery of Saddam’s WMD stockpile, that Bush oversold the threat Saddam posed to the world.

But nobody can deny the threat he posed to his own people.

The marchers, the critics, the hostile global press, the hoopla surrounding the security arrangements to protect the president . . . all of it, is, in the final analysis, a protest AGAINST removing Saddam Hussein. And most of the protestors are so blinded by propaganda that they don’t even know it.

Those who have figured it out for themselves keep protesting because the protestors hate the United States MORE than they hated Saddam’s Iraq.

The Russian assessment of the Bush administration as an ‘odious regime’ is to be expected — despite the optimistic assessments, the two nations will never be friends.

But the visceral hatred for George Bush articulated by the press in Britain, Australia and even the United States can’t be explained away as easily. Today’s bombings in Istanbul prove that there is no safe haven from the war on terror.

Being a fellow Muslim is no protection from al-Qaeda, as Istanbul’s Muslim victims attest. Neither does taking a public position friendly to terrorism, as attacks against French interests in the Gulf and elsewhere have proved.

So protesting against the US doesn’t buy security from al-Qaeda attacks. The only security against being attacked is to eliminate the attackers.

President Bush said in his speech, “Whatever has come before, we now have only two options: To keep our word or to break our word,” Bush said. “Failure of democracy in Iraq would throw its people back into misery and turn that country over to terrorists who wish to destroy us.”

From al-Qaeda’s perspective, the rules of engagement are simple. If al-Qaeda can force America out of Iraq, then they win. If they can drive America out of Iraq, it will embolden the terrorists to escalate the attacks as they seek even greater concessions.

None of this is complicated. But there is another spirit at work in the world today, a spirit of deception that blinds many to even the most obvious of truths.

Deception is the hallmark of the antichrist. Deception in this generation has been elevated to an art form. We’ve even developed a cute name for it. ‘Propaganda’ is more respectable when it is called ‘spin’. Professional propagandists are called ‘spin doctors’.

When asked what would be the signs of His coming and the end of the age, the FIRST thing that Jesus said in reply was, “Take heed that no man deceive you.”

In Defense of Marriage

In Defense of Marriage
Vol: 26 Issue: 19 Wednesday, November 19, 2003

The Massachusetts Supreme Court decided yesterday that it is unconstitutional to deny homosexuals the right to get married. By endorsing full marriages, the court went beyond so-called “civil union” laws passed in Vermont and California that give homosexual couples some but not all of the same rights as normal marriages. In fact, in its ruling the Massachusetts Supreme Court’s decision means that homosexual marriage IS a ‘normal’ marriage.

In its 4-3 ruling, the high court decided, “Barred access to … civil marriage, a person who enters into an intimate, exclusive union with another of the same sex is arbitrarily deprived of membership in one of our community’s most rewarding and cherished institutions. . That exclusion is incompatible with the constitutional principles of respect for individual autonomy and equality under law.”

The Supreme Court seized on the fact that the framers of the state constitution did not define ‘marriage’ as being between a man and a woman. (They also failed to define ‘alive’ as being a state of ‘not dead’, paving the way for legalized abortion.)

In the same state of Massachusetts, failing to consummate a marriage is grounds for annullment, so it would seem that defining a marriage as being between two people capable of this biological act is already a matter of law. But it isn’t politically correct. So, instead, the justices created a politically correct version of the law from the bench.

It is a surreal ruling, made more surreal by the comments of the victorious lawyer; “I’m thrilled,” said Mary Bonauto, the Boston lawyer who brought the challenge on behalf of seven same-sex couples denied marriage licenses by county clerks in Massachusetts. “I’ve talked to thousands of people who have really suffered because they don’t have access to marriage. They will have a chance to be equal families.”

A chance to be ‘equal families’? Lessee, 2 x 3 ‘equals’ six. That means two threes are THE SAME as six. Ok, here’s two ‘families.’ Fred and Steve. The other is George and Martha.

Twenty-five years later, there’s still just Fred and Steve.

And George and Martha, and their kids, Bill and Sally and Elizabeth and Tom, and their husbands, and wives, and THEIR kids.

The Supreme Court not only redefined marriage, they redefined the word ‘equal’ so as to render it meaningless. They stole a word right out of the dictionary!

The court gave Massachusetts’ legislature 180 days to comply with its decision. Because it was based on state constitutional guarantees of liberty and equal protection, the decision cannot be appealed to federal court.

Although the powerful speaker of Massachusetts’ House of Representatives, Democrat Thomas Finneran, and Republican Gov. Mitt Romney oppose same-sex marriages, most legal experts said the decision left little or no wiggle room. A ‘Defense of Marriage Act’ — constitutional amendment to limit marriage to heterosexual couples could not be put before voters until 2006.

The federal government already has a ‘Defense of Marriage Act’ defining marriage as including only opposite-sex couples for the purpose of interpreting federal statutes such as the family leave law and tax benefits. Thirty-seven states have followed suit, passing their own “Defense of Marriage” laws.

Interestingly, the federal definition of marriage has no power over individual states.

Ever notice the only binding federal laws are the stupid ones? The feds can force the states to bus kids across town to go to school in unfamiliar neighborhoods. The feds can decide for states whether or not they acknowledge the 10 Commandments as the basis for their legal systems. But the federal government’s definition of marriage is now meaningless.

The Massachusetts ruling means a homosexual couple living in New York can go to Massachusetts, get ‘married’ and return to New York and seek recognition of their marriages in New York under the federal constitutional provision that requires each state to give “full faith and credit” to the laws of other states.

The only states that do NOT have to honor Massachusetts ‘marriage’ licenses are the thirty-seven who have already passed a state ‘Defense of Marriage’ Act.

Unless there is a federal Constitutional amendment clearly explaining what never needed explanation until now, the words ‘marriage’ and ‘family’ are as meaningless as the judicially-redefined ‘equal’.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said all options were on the table, adding: “It is an issue – as we watch what’s happening with the courts – that in some shape or form we’ll be addressing here in the United States Senate.”

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said the court’s decision leaves Congress little choice but to enact a constitutional amendment to protect marriage.

“On an issue as fundamental as marriage, it is the job of the American people, through their legislators, to decide – not the Massachusetts courts,” Cornyn said.

U.S. Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-N.C.) said the ruling was yet another attack on American values. He said it would “only further the resolve of those of us who seek to protect the sanctity of marriage.”

The issue of gay marriage is going to be a major element in the 2004 Election, right up there with abortion.

Marriage is not just a civil union. It is a God-given institution, clearly and carefully defined as being between a man and a woman. Marriage and family are symbols of our relationship with God.

The Church is the Bride of Christ, eagerly awaiting the Bridegroom and the subsequent Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

Ephesians 5:23 clearly demonstrates the interdependence between the institution of marriage and our relationship with Christ.

“For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the saviour of the body.” And again, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it” (5:25)

The family relationship forms the basis for understanding our relationship to the Father. In 1992, I was invited to celebrate Shabbat, the Sabbath supper, at the Jerusalem home of Gershon Saloman, leader of the Temple Mount Faithful Movement in Israel.

It was a wonderful experience. And I met his children. They called him ‘Abba’ — the Israeli equivalent to ‘Daddy’. That is OUR relationship to the Father.

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby WE cry, Abba, Father. (Romans 8:15)

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” (Galatians 4:6)

The assault against marriage in the courts isn’t just a civil issue. It speaks directly to the heart of Judeo-Christianity, seeking to redefine it in such a way as to bring about the collapse of its role in American society. The redefinition of the family unit makes our understanding of our relationship to God’s forever family as clear as mud — which is the enemy’s ultimate goal.

Paul writes, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.” (2 Timothy 3:1) He goes on to give a social outline that appears to be ripped right out of today’s headlines. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. . .But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men. ” (2 Timothy 3:2-5,9)

“Tonight You Die, Rofayda”
Vol: 26 Issue: 18 Tuesday, November 18, 2003

An Israeli girl was murdered by her mother to avenge the family honor after the girl was raped and impregnated by her two brothers. The killing didn’t raise many eyebrows among her neighbors and she is not expected to face harsh sentencing. Such events are routine among the Jews.

Ok, try this. A Christian girl murdered by her mother to avenge the family honor after the girl was raped and impregnated by her two brothers. The killing didn’t raise many eyebrows among her neighbors and she is not expected to face harsh sentencing. Such events are routine among Christians.

OK, so you’re awake, now. Let me try ONE more time. A Palestinian girl murdered by her mother to avenge the family honor after the girl was raped and impregnated by her two brothers. The killing didn’t raise many eyebrows among her neighbors and she is not expected to face harsh sentencing. Such events are routine among Muslims. And this story is on the level.

Honor killings, as they are known, ARE routine among Muslims. They are unheard of among Christians and Jews.

In this particular case, according to a Knight Ridder report quoted in Worldnetdaily, court records show that Rofayda Qaoud was raped by her brothers, Fahdi, 22, and Ali, 20, in a bedroom they shared in the family’s three-room house in the town of Abu Qash in the West Bank. When her mother found she had become pregnant, she insisted her daughter commit suicide, and even bought the unwed teen a razor so she could slash her own wrists. When the daughter refused, Amira Abu Hanhan Qaoud took matters into her own hands and murdered Rofayda to restore her family’s “honor.”

Entering her sleeping daughter’s bedroom last Jan. 27 with a plastic bag, razor and wooden stick, reports Knight Ridder, the mother told her daughter: “Tonight you die, Rofayda.” Wrapping the bag around the teen’s head, Qaoud cut her daughter’s wrists, while ignoring her cries of “No, mother, no!” Qaoud then struck her daughter in the head with the stick to finish off the job, said the report.

The WND story also references a column written by James Emery called ‘Reputation is Everything’. Emery reports that the murder of women in the Middle East is an ancient and time-honored tradition.

“Prior to the arrival of Islam in AD 622,” Emery writes, “Arabs occasionally buried infant daughters to avoid the possibility that they would later bring shame to the family. This practice continued through the centuries. It may still occur today among Bedouins, who consider girls most likely to sully the family honor.

Several thousand women a year are victims of honor killings. Numerous murders are ruled an accident, suicide, or family dispute, if they’re reported at all. Police and government officials are often bribed to ignore crimes and hinder investigations. A woman beaten, burned, strangled, shot, or stabbed to death is often ruled a suicide, even when there are multiple wounds.

Many women are killed and buried in unmarked graves; their very existence is removed from community and clan records. The fact that so many murders go unreported is indicative of the status of women and the role of culture in fundamentalist Islamic countries.

“It shows that women are still sometimes seen as commodities that are owned by men,” says Carolyn Hannan, director of the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women.”

In one case, a Palestinian boy admitted to reciting the Koran while strangling his sister for dishonoring her family. (The girl was killed because her desire for independence became public knowledge).

Honor killings are accorded special status in Islamic courts. Men convicted of premeditated murder may be imprisoned for as little as three to six months. Upon their release, friends and relatives treat them like celebrities.

Ahmed, a Palestinian boy who killed his teenage sister because she refused an arranged marriage, was commended upon his release from jail. Neighbors showered him with compliments, and his father called him a hero for restoring the family honor.

A sixteen-year-old boy killed his divorced mother, stabbing her repeatedly as he chased her into the street. The boy told authorities he was upset because neighbors were gossiping about her allegedly immoral behavior.

Palestinian newspapers include advertisements placed by families who are looking for female relatives accused of immoral behavior.

“When they find her, they’ll kill her,” Emery quotes Jameel, a Palestinian businessman, “because the whole family wants the girl dead.”

The community is warned not to interfere, not to hide the woman.

Women who are accused of inappropriate behavior are often locked up by authorities to protect them from their families. Once imprisoned, they can only be released to a male family member, who must first agree not to kill them.

According to Emery, “Regardless of assurances, women are often murdered within hours of their discharge. Fayez Mohammed secured the release of his seventeen-year-old daughter, Lamis, from a Jordanian detention center where she was staying for her protection. He guaranteed her safety and then slit her throat. Fayez was sentenced to nine months in prison for the crime.”

Although Emery’s research focused on honor killings among the Palestinians, the same can be said of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran and other Islamic strongholds.

On September 17, 2001, five days after the attacks on New York and Washington, President Bush addressed the Washington DC Islamic Center.

In his speech, the President said this; “The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. . . When we think of Islam we think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. Billions of people find comfort and solace and peace.”

That isn’t what comes to my mind when I think of Islam. What comes to MY mind is the incredible accuracy of Bible prophecy.

Speaking of Ishmael, through whom Islam claims its spiritual authority, the angel told Hagar, “And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.” (Genesis 16:12)

More Muslims Fall Victim to al-Qaeda

More Muslims Fall Victim to al-Qaeda
Vol: 26 Issue: 17 Monday, November 17, 2003

Two Arabic-language newspapers received separate statements Sunday claiming al-Qaeda was responsible for bombing two Jewish synagogues in Istanbul, Turkey. One of the e-mailed statements warned of further attacks and demanded that the United States release Arab prisoners held at Guantanamo in Cuba. It also warned President Bush that attacks would be directed at the United States itself.

“There is more to come. By God the Jews of the world will regret that their (men) thought of invading the lands of Muslims,” the statement said.

“We tell the criminal Bush and his Arab and non-Arab followers (especially Britain, Italy, Australia, and Japan) that cars of death will not stop at Baghdad, Riyadh, Istanbul, Jerba, Nasiriyah or Jakarta,” it said, referring to past attacks in Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Indonesia.

In the Istanbul attack, both buildings were virtually destroyed and twenty-three people were killed. Six of the dead were Jews. The remaining victims were all Muslims. Almost all of the three hundred plus victims wounded in the blast were Muslim passers-by.

In recent weeks, al-Qaeda has been somewhat less than discriminating in its attacks. The suicide bombing attacks in Riyadh two weeks ago targeted an apartment building in which the majority of the inhabitants were Lebanese Muslims. The attack against the Italian police HQ in Nasariyah killed more than a dozen Muslim Iraqis.

One would think that once al-Qaeda started killing Muslims in the name of Islam, al-Qaeda recruiters might find their jobs getting more difficult.

But a Pakistani newsmagazine reported this week that Pakistani youths are joining al-Qaeda ‘by the thousands’ and streaming across the border into Afghanistan to repel the ‘Crusaders’.

At least 5,000 youths including former Taliban soldiers and students from religious seminaries of Baluchistan, have joined their compatriots in Afghanistan,” Pakistani magazine ‘Newsline’ reported.

“Regrouped, reorganized and re-armed, these warriors are now all set to launch a new guerrilla war for as long as it takes to expel what they call the ‘infidel forces’ from Afghanistan,” it said in an exclusive report based on interviews of Taliban leaders.

It said the fugitive Taliban chief, Mullah Omar, was directly involved in the reorganization process. The magazine also says that al-Qaeda and Taliban operatives have heavily infiltrated the ranks of the Afghan army.

And the Weekly Standard is reporting a direct link between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin-Laden dating back to 1991 and continuing all the way through September 11 and beyond, explaining the upsurge in al-Qaeda activity there.

Most newspapers are giving the war against terror secondary coverage to the war against the White House. To listen to the media, the path to victory doesn’t depend on defeating al-Qaeda. It depends on defeating George Bush.

Most Iraqis are terrified that the United States will pull out and leave them to the tender mercies of the Fedayeen Saddam and their al-Qaeda cohorts. Those Iraqis that trusted the United States’ staying power in 1991 now inhabit mass graves all over the Iraqi countryside. Those who survived have long memories.

Which is the reason more Iraqis are not coming forward to help the US identify the terrorists. Iraqis know there is an election coming, and they hear the rhetoric of the candidates.

Every single one of them has positioned themselves as against the war and has promised, if elected, to pull out our troops. President Bush continues to promise that America is in for the long haul, but the ‘long haul’ might only mean until next November and the Iraqi man on the street is keenly aware of that. So he keeps what he knows to himself, and American soldiers continue to pay the price demanded by the useful idiots back home.

One of the cries of the anti-warrior is “No more Vietnams!” What about Vietnam made it such a quagmire? The anti-warriors.

America had the Vietnam War won by 1970, but the political pressure applied by the anti-warriors back home kept us from pressing on to final victory. Instead, we scaled back operations and eventually fled, turning it over to the North Vietnamese.

George Bernard Shaw’s most famous quote is famous because it is so accurate; “We learn from history that we learn nothing from history.”

Except that whoever controls the useful idiots usually wins.

Special Report: A New Form of Antisemitism . . .
Vol: 26 Issue: 16 Sunday, November 16, 2003

A pre-dawn fire destroyed part of a suburban Jewish school in what France’s interior minister said was likely an anti-semitic act.

No injuries were reported in Saturday’s blaze at the Merkaz Hatorah private school, located in Gagny in the Seine-Saint-Denis region.

About 100 firefighters were called in to put out the flames, which destroyed some 32,290 square feet on the school’s second floor where work was underway, officials at the local prefecture said. The area was not being used by students.

The fire started in two separate places, local officials said.

“The criminal origin of the blaze is more than strongly suspected which gives, for this Jewish school, an anti-Semitic and obviously racist connotation,” said Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy during a visit to the fire site.

In Germany, a prominent German member of the opposition Christian Democrats gave a speech in which he tried to document how Jewish people were responsible for the atrocities and killings of the Russian revolution – and compared it to the Holocaust. He was reprimanded by the party, who hoped that would be that.

It wasn’t, since this is politics, and eventually, the parliament voted to expel Martin Hohmann, hoping to put to rest allegations of lingering German antisemitism.

It didn’t work out that way. Although 195 MPs supported his expulsion, 28 opposed it and 16 abstained. Another four spoiled their ballots while five MPs did not turn up to vote.

“The result makes it quite clear that his position and his views have a certain support in his party,” said Green Party MP Claudia Roth. “It’s not enough to say: Hohmann is expelled and that is the end of the story. I feel that the story will continue.”

Roth’s remarks are prescient; the story will continue, not just in Germany, but globally. The Greek government was forced to distance itself from recent anti-Semitic comments made by Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis.

“We [the Greeks] are alone, but without the self-awareness and fanaticism the Jews have. We and the Jews are two peoples who are brotherless in the world. However, they have fanaticism and succeed in imposing themselves. We can say today that this small people is at the root of evil, not of good, which means that too much self-awareness and too much insistence causes harm.”

Two Greek government ministers heard the remarks and remained silent.

Yad Vashem (Israel’s Holocaust Museum) Chairman Avner Shalev said Theodorakis’s statements “are a symptom of the systematic flooding of Europe with incitement against the Jewish people and the State of Israel.”

Writes Abraham Foxman in his book, “Never Again”, “we currently face as great a threat to the safety and security of the Jewish people as the one we faced in the 1930s if not a greater one. Foxman cited two recent events to make his case.

The first is last month s speech by Malaysia s then-prime minister, Mahathir Mohammad, who told the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference that Jews rule the world by proxy, and urged the Muslim world to unite to defeat the Jews.

The second development is a recent poll revealing that more Europeans about 59 percent consider Israel the greatest threat to world peace than any other country.

Under leaders that excuse the anti-Semitism in their midst, Europe home to a fast-growing Muslim population has given rise to extremist political parties and hate crimes against Jews, Foxman notes. After Mahathir s speech before the Organization of the Islamic Conference, heads of state, kings, potentates stood on their hind legs and gave him a standing ovation, Foxman said.

According to Foxman, Israel has few friends.

With the United Nations a bully pulpit for the Palestinian cause, the Jewish state often finds itself allied only with America, the Marshall Islands and Micronesia. Israel has become the Jew of nations, Foxman told Wolf Blitzer last week in a CNN interview shunned, hounded and persecuted.

At a 65th anniversary commemoration of Kristallnacht in Vienna, protestors waved Palestinian flags and yelled anti-Israel slogans, disrupting the Holocaust ceremony.

The world hates Israel — only someone blinded by antisemitism could deny it. Look at the UN voting record when it comes to condemning Israel. Israel has come under greater UN condemnation than any single state in history — and more times than all the Arab states combined — and the vote is always four against the world; Israel, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and, thankfully for Israel, the United States

The world cannot offer an explanation for its venomous, knee-jerk hatred of Israel. The Palestinian ‘occupation’ is an excuse. Israel was just as hated before it began.

The ‘Palestinians’ came into existence in 1967 following the third war of annihilation launched against the Jews in less than twenty years. The ‘Palestinian occupation’ came to global prominence following yet a fourth effort by the Arab world to annihilate the Jews in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

In all four of these wars, not a single country lifted a finger to help them.

The Palestinian issue doesn’t explain any of that.

Ariel Sharon noted the existence of a ‘new kind of antisemitism’ at the state level, in which governments treat Israel the way that individual antisemites treat Jews. But nobody can explain why.

The Jews have contributed more to global society than any other people on earth. More Jews have won Nobel Prizes for advances in science than any other identifiable religious or ethnic group in the world.

Although Jews account for a fraction of a percentage of the earth’s population, they account for 22% of the Nobel Prizes awarded for scientific advancements since 1901, for example.

So, what explains this new ‘antisemitism’? (As if the old kind isn’t bad enough).

The Bible says that Israel would not exist until the last days. Until Israel’s restoration, antisemitism could only be practiced against Jewish individuals. But Zecharaiah says that the entire world would be gathered against a literal nation of Israel who would be, at that time, in disputed possession of Jerusalem.

As we found out, it was impossible to ‘gather the whole world together’ against one of the most repressive and brutal dictatorships of the 20th century when Bush tried to assemble a coalition against Iraq.

But where Israel is concerned, the only holdouts are America, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. But nobody can explain why they oppose Israel, apart from the Palestinian issue, which, as we’ve seen, is just a convenient excuse.

Daniel says the antichrist will appear to settle the conflict between Israel and her enemies, a feat so impressive it catapults him to unrestricted global power. John says he will use his power to launch a holocaust against the Jews so horrific that Jesus said without His return, ‘no flesh would be saved.’

And Jesus told His Jewish audience that the generation that would see the restoration of the fig tree ‘would not pass, until all these things be fulfilled.’

He told them, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

As close as all this seems to reaching fulfillment before our very eyes, Paul told the Church that there is first ANOTHER event on God’s prophetic calendar:

“For this we say unto you BY THE WORD OF THE LORD, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

“Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:15-18)

Next Up, Biowar?

Next Up, Biowar?
Vol: 26 Issue: 15 Saturday, November 15, 2003

Car bombs exploded outside two synagogues in Istanbul at almost the same time during Sabbath prayers. Early reports say at least sixteen people were killed and more than 140 people were wounded by fire and shrapnel. And, as usual in these kinds of attacks, those figures are expected to rise.

The terrorist attacks have continued to escalate as the month of Ramadan (October 27-November 26) progresses. Thirty-five people died and 230 were wounded in four al-Qaeda attacks in Iraq on October 27. Eighteen died and 120 were wounded in November 9 attack in Riyadh. Most of the victims in that attack were Lebanese Muslims.

On November 12, suicide car bombers hit an Italian military police base in the southern Iraq city of Nassiriya, killing 18 Italians and nine Iraqis and wounding at least 20 Italians and more than 80 Iraqis.

Anti-terrorism experts have been warning of an upsurge in global al-Qaeda activity, and they are now warning of a biological threat.

A leaked confidential report given to the UN by a panel of experts says al-Qaeda is planning to use chemical and biological weapons against the West soon. The only thing stopping them, according to the experts, is that they don’t know how yet.

The five-member expert group led by Michael Chandler of Britain said it believes this is the main reason why al-Qaeda is still trying to develop new conventional explosive devices, such as bombs that can evade scanning machines.

With the fall of Saddam’s government, al-Qaeda lost an important patron and source of finance and logistics, according to a report in this morning’s New York Post. The information came from a 16-page memo to the Senate Intelligence Committee that cites reports from a variety of domestic and foreign spy agencies and compiled by multiple sources.

That, by itself is a major story, since it provides all the justification necessary for the Iraq war and cuts the UN off at the knees. If Saddam and al-Qaeda were working together prior to September 11, then the September 12 Congressional authorization for war against al-Qaeda included Saddam Hussein. And the UN has no legal argument.

But, as important as that is, the New York Post story also contained a chilling detail that nobody has connected to the leaked UN report. The UN experts say the only reason that al-Qaeda hasn’t deployed chemical or biological weapons is because they don’t know how.

According to the New York Post story, Osama sent two al-Qaeda operatives to Iraq following the attack on the USS Cole in October, 2000. There, they were trained, according to the Post, in “weapons of mass destruction and obtained information on poisons and gases.”

Iraq “sought al Qaeda influence through its connections with Afghanistan, to facilitate the transshipment of proscribed weapons and equipment to Iraq. In return, Iraq provided al Qaeda with training and instructors.”

Add to that a report in today’s Worldnetdaily that says an al-Qaeda member bought enriched uranium capable of being used in a “dirty bomb” from the Congolese opposition three years ago and you get a pretty comprehensive picture. The Department of Homeland Security warned in March that al-Qaeda, “may be in the last stages of planning for large-scale attacks,” officials warned in March and in subsequent advisories. “There are many recent indications this planning includes the use of chemical, biological, and/or radiological materials.”

Taken together, the UN report says that al-Qaeda is determined to use these weapons, if they can figure out how, and the US report says Saddam already provided them with the know-how.

Which means it is only a matter of time, opportunity, and logistics.

Special Report: al-Jazeera, the 10 Commandments and the Rule of Law

Special Report: al-Jazeera, the 10 Commandments and the Rule of Law
Vol: 26 Issue: 14 Friday, November 14, 2003

The man who hacked al-Jazeera’s website during the war with Iraq pleaded guilty to wire fraud and unlawful intereception of an electronic communication in June.

John William Racine II was a web designer from Los Angeles who was infuriated by the propaganda being spread by al-Jazeera, so he posed as an Al Jazeera employee to get a password to the network’s site.

Once inside, he redirected visitors to a page he created that showed an American flag shaped like a U.S. map and the motto, “Let Freedom Ring”.

At his sentencing, the judge said, “I don’t think of you as an evil person … but this was a crime. It wasn’t just a childish prank.”

Racine was sentenced to 1,000 hours of community service and a $2000 fine.

It would seem that every American would owe Racine 1000 hours of community service, at least to me, but the fact is that hacking is a crime. Even against al-Jazeera, which is unquestionably America’s ideological enemy.

This is another one of those Catch-22 situations in which the enemy uses our freedoms against us. During the Iraq war, al-Jazeera beamed propaganda footage of US damage to civilian targets (that never occurred), after the war an al-Jazeera correspondent was charged with having ties to al-Qaeda, and, since 9/11, Osama bin-Laden has used the Qatar-based network to broadcast coded strike messages to his operatives in the field disguised as anti-Western diatribes.

But America’s 1st Amendment guarantees the right to broadcast propaganda.

America is a nation of laws (except for a brief hiatus during the Clinton years) and Racine broke the law.

Personally, I’d like to give Racine my congratulations for his patriotism, and for proving he had the courage of his convictions. That he enjoyed the sympathy of the sentencing judge is evident from both his comments and the leniency of the sentence, but American justice was satisfied.

In another case, Judge Roy Moore was kicked off the bench of the Alabama Supreme Court for defying a federal court order to remove the Ten Commandments monument from the statehouse rotunda.

As I noted at the time, Moore had a strong ‘state’s rights’ case, but he chose instead to make it a case of Christians vs. the secular — sealing his fate. America is not a theocracy.

Instead of pressing the 10th Amendment issue that the federal government can’t dictate Alabama’s acknowledgment of the 10 Commandments as the basis for its legal code, Moore gave speeches about how Christian values were being eroded.

Moore also played into the government’s hands, by defining the argument in terms of religion. By framing it in the exact terms alleged by the government, that is to say, arguing it as being an issue of church and state, instead of the 10th Amendment principle of state’s rights, Moore’s arguments became the government’s best evidence against him.

The case I’ve been watching more closely is the one in Texas over the same issue. In that one, a homeless man sued the state, claiming a 10 Commandments monument on state capitol grounds was a government endorsement of Judeo-Christian values.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott didn’t argue Christians vs. the secular government. The government is supposed to be secular. And the 10 Commandments are Jewish Law, not Christian law. Jewish Law demands strict adherence to every detail of each commandment. Christians are not under the Law of Moses.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the Law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:14) “But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the Law” (Galatians 5:18) “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the Law, then Christ is dead in vain.” (Galatians 2:21) “For as many as are of the works of the Law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the Law to do them.” (Galatians 3:10)

So the Ten Commandments as an expression of religion isn’t even Christian. It is Jewish Law — and the legal basis upon which Jesus was tried, convicted and crucified. So Abbott didn’t argue Christianity.

Instead, the AG correctly acknowledged the Commandments are, “undoubtedly a sacred religious text, but they are also a foundational document in the development of Western legal codes and culture.”

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in Austin agreed. In it’s decision, it said, “Even those who would see the Decalogue as wise counsel born of man’s experience rather than as divinely inspired religious teaching cannot deny its influence upon the civil and criminal laws of this country. That extraordinary influence has been repeatedly acknowledged by the Supreme Court and detailed by scholars. Equally so is its influence upon ethics and the ideal of a just society.”

Then the court summarized the entire 10 Commandments argument more effectively in one sentence than have all the briefs and all the speeches in all the court cases so far.

“There is no constitutional right to be free of government endorsement of its own laws.”

Chalk one up for the rule of law. At last.

New PA Cabinet Still Arafat’s

New PA Cabinet Still Arafat’s
Vol: 26 Issue: 13 Thursday, November 13, 2003

Yasser Arafat’s hand-picked prime minister was narrowly approved by the Palestinian parliament by a vote of 48-36. With that vote, Ahmed Queria was confirmed as the second prime minister of the Palestinian Authority this year.

Following the PLC session, some legislators attacked Qureia and his new cabinet: “We don’t feel there is anything new in Qureia’s program,” said Jamal Shati, a legislator from Jenin. “This is repetition of previous cabinet programs. For seven years we have been hearing similar speeches. In addition, we see that the new formation includes ministers who served in all the previous cabinets.”

Yossi Alpher, who co-edits bitterlemons.org, writes that instead of recreating a new Palestinian government, Arafat has insured that needed reforms will not take place.

“Arafat’s most recent success at domestic political manipulation is to oblige Abu Alaa (Ahmed Qureia) to form a government that does not even aspire to control the Palestinian Authority’s security establishment. By retaining overall control, Arafat can ensure that violence continues and that the means for committing it continue to exist. Abu Alaa may or may not succeed in negotiating a new ceasefire, which could give us all a few weeks of relief. But he will not be a peacemaker as long as Arafat is his master.”

And there is no question that Arafat remains Queria’s master. The two were deadlocked for weeks, delaying the formation of the government, until Queria surrendered control of the internal security forces to Yasser Arafat and accepted Arafat’s hand-picked cabinet.

Hakam Balawi is the new Minister of the Interior. He is a long-time Arafat loyalist, joined Arafat’s Fatah movement upon its founding in 1965 and represented the Palestine Liberation Organisation in Libya in the early 1970s and then in Tunis until 1998. Balawi will be in charge of police, civil defense and internal security forces. Other services will be under the National Security Council headed by Arafat.

Nabil Sha’ath is another long-time Fatah loyalist and key advisor to Yasser Arafat. Now he is also the Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister.

Saeb Erekat is the new Minister for Negotiation Affairs. He is in exactly the same job he was in before the government was formed, only now he is a cabinet minister.

Back when the Quartet launched the so-called road map to peace, one of the conditions was that Arafat be sidelined and the Palestinians present a negotiator independent of Arafat with the authority to negotiate on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.

President Bush assured a skeptical Ariel Sharon that there was hope for the road map, if Arafat wasn’t involved. Six months later, all the pretenses are dropped. Arafat is as firmly in charge as he ever was, and Queria has no more authority than did his predecessor, Mahmoud Abbas, who resigned earlier this year for that reason.

The Western press is reporting that Arafat has turned over a new leaf; he has reaffirmed Israel’s right to exist, and ‘extended an olive branch’ of peace to the Israelis.

In a speech selectively quoted in the Western press, Arafat said, “The Israeli government says we do not want peace. I tell them this is not true. We will not retract this recognition of the rights of the Israeli people to live in security and peace, alongside the Palestinians, independent in an independent state. The time has come, Israelis, to emerge from this cycle of destructive war which gives no security, justice or peace to either of us.”

Some other quotes from the same speech didn’t make the cut: “The Haram al-Sharif [Temple Mount] and all other sacred places, Christian and Muslim, are being violated by the Israelis. They have not stopped at this. Our brothers and sisters in Hebron and Bethlehem are suffering unbearable violations against their holy places, including the Church of the Nativity which was violated and closed.”

It is interesting that Arafat brought up the ‘violation’ of the Church of the Nativity as an Israeli ‘crime’. It was Palestinian terrorists working for Arafat who seized the church in a standoff with Israeli troops over the Christmas week 2001, urinating and defecating on the very place Christ is believed to have been born.

One quote from Arafat’s speech was particularly ironic. Speaking of his desire for ‘peace’ with the Israelis, Arafat said, “My life is not more precious than the smallest Palestinian child [killed in the ongoing violence].”

This is only two days after it was revealed Arafat whisked his wife and daughter away to Paris to keep them safe from the uprising, on a monthly stipend of $100,000.00. Apparently, theirs is.

Arafat went on, “This is the criminal Israeli war to attempt to uproot the Palestinian people and to impose settlement and settlers on our land and to prevent us from establishing our independent state with its capital in Jerusalem.”

And back we go to Square One. Arafat’s impossible claim back on the table. An independent Palestinian state with its capital in JERUSALEM.

“And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” (Zechariah 12:3)

Haven’t We Danced This Dance Before?

Haven’t We Danced This Dance Before?
Vol: 26 Issue: 12 Wednesday, November 12, 2003

The International Atomic Energy Agency has given Iran a limited passing grade in its latest report on Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Mohammad el-Baradei, said the Iranian nuclear declaration ‘appears to be comprehensive’.

While inspectors said they found no evidence of a bomb program in Iran, there was evidence that the Iranians were working on methods of uranium enrichment and the production of plutonium.

The Bush administration wants Iran declared in violation of the treaty at that Nov. 20 meeting a move leading to U.N. Security Council involvement and possible sanctions.

But the council is unlikely to grant Washington’s request. Within recent weeks, Iran has swung from belligerent denial of wrongdoing to acknowledging past “mistakes” in not reporting honestly to the agency. The prevailing sentiment in the Security Council is that it would be less dangerous to play along with the charade than it would to back Iran into a corner.

The most likely scenario is to repeat the same cycle of UN inspection teams playing ‘cheat and retreat’ that just came to it’s predictable conclusion next door in Iraq.

Setting up a scenario eerily reminiscent to the run-up to the war with Iraq, the United Nations inspection teams report one set of conclusions, while the United States intelligence services examine the same evidence and report exactly the opposite.

Two intelligence reports issued in recent days find that Iran — and North Korea — have made advances on a variety of technologies necessary to build nuclear weapons that surprised many nuclear experts and Western intelligence officials.

Iran’s program turns out to have been even broader and deeper than American intelligence agencies suspected. A 30-page confidential report issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency and sent to 20 governments on Monday describes a program that reached back at least 18 years and involved extremely complex technologies, including an exotic program to use lasers to enrich uranium.

The IAEA report is full of examples showing that Iran fooled the global nuclear watchdog for years. It refers to “limited and reactive” cooperation with inspectors and “changing and contradictory” stories. Despite that history of deception, though, the IAEA insisted that there is no evidence of a current weapons project in Iran.

That conclusion stunned US intelligence experts.

Especially since the Iranian report to the IAEA contained details even US intelligence didn’t know. Details that strengthened the US conclusion Iran IS working on a nuclear weapon.

The report said that Tehran acknowledged building two centrifuge plants and finishing a third site, the Kalaye Electric Company, which made centrifuge parts and did extensive centrifuge testing and experimental purification of uranium.

Inspectors were blocked from entering the electric company’s facilities earlier this year; they now know that behind a false wall of boxes were scores of centrifuges, in what appeared to be a pilot program to produce weapons-grade uranium. The report also reveals that for 12 years Iran developed a secondary program to use lasers to purify uranium.

These programs costs billions of dollars to develop in secret. The ONLY end-use for enriched uranium and plutonium is nuclear weapons. But somehow, the IAEA has concluded those billions invested in developing material useful only as nuclear weapons is NOT evidence that Iran has an active nuclear weapons development program.

The Russians immediately endorsed the IAEA report, since it is making billions from building the reactors in the first place. I noted with interest a headline in this morning’s South Africa Star that predicted the next logical step in the global political template. It proclaimed, “European Powers, Americans Set to Clash over Iran’s Nuclear Activities”.

Is this starting to sound we’ve been here before?

The world continues to polarize into five distinct spheres of influence; Europe, the Muslim Middle East and North Africa, the Far East Asian bloc, the former Soviet Union and the United States.

The Bible foretold four out of five. Scripture speaks to the revived Roman Empire, the Kings of the South, the Kings of the East and the Gog-Magog alliance. In Scripture, there is no fifth sphere of global influence in the last days.

North Korea is already nuclear, as are India and Pakistan. Iran is clearly developing nuclear weapons. There seems to be no real interest in preventing the spread of nuclear proliferation among rogue states from anywhere except the United States. And it’s unlikely Washington is going to sit by quietly while Tehran gets the Bomb.

Someone posted an interesting comment in one of the forums the other day. It speculated that maybe where Ezekiel and John refer to swords and spears, that’s because that’s all that’s left.

I don’t know where America fits into prophecy, but according to Scripture, it plays no major role. Nuclear war is one possibility. The Rapture is another — my preferred choice, but by no means a certainty.

What IS certain is that America is surrounded by an increasingly hostile, and increasing deadly, world in these last days. Already, the secular world is predicting the passing of the torch of empire from America to Europe. The four spheres of power predicted in Scripture exist, and the only common bond they share is hatred of America.

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. . . when these things BEGIN to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. . . Verily I say unto you, This generation shall NOT pass away, till ALL be fulfilled.” (Matthew 24:6, Luke 21:28,32)

Special Report: Reaping the Whirlwind

Special Report: Reaping the Whirlwind
Vol: 26 Issue: 11 Tuesday, November 11, 2003

An Arab magazine claimed Tuesday that a member of al Qaeda had sent them an e-mail claiming responsibility for Saturday’s homicide bombing in Riyadh that killed 17 people and left more than 100 wounded.

“We struck Muhaya compound,” the London-based weekly Al-Majalla quoted an e-mail from a purported Al Qaeda operative identified as Abu Mohammed al-Ablaj as saying, referring to the residential compound attacked Saturday. The e-mail was first seen late Monday and released a statement about it to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Prince Turki al-Faisal, now Saudi ambassador to Great Britain, issued a poignant statement to ‘all the peoples of the world’ to help the Saudis ‘stop this evil’ . . . blah, blah, blah.

Prince Turki used to be the head of Saudi intelligence when he worked with Osama bin Laden during the Afghan war against the Soviets. The Saudis financed and supported al-Qaeda up to and after September 11, and right up until al-Qaeda turned on them after the money started drying up.

There are some six million foreign workers working in the kingdom. Not because there aren’t enough Saudis to do the work — the Saudi unemployment rate is 25% — but because the current generation of pampered, oil-rich Saudis never had to work before.

The House of Saud buys its power using oil profits using the ‘bread and circuses’ principle of governing. Instead of investing in things like education and infrastructure, the House of Saud just gave the money to the people to keep them quiet.

Now there aren’t enough trained Saudis to do skilled labor, or enough unskilled Saudis willing to get their hands dirty. The only real educational investment made by the House of Saud was in religious education. Students in Saudi madrassas commit the Koran to memory and learn of the need to convert the whole world to Islam — by whatever means necessary.

It bought peace with the many Islamic conservatives in the kingdom. But long term, it guaranteed that several generations of Saudi men would be unemployable for anything except al Qaeda or teaching in a religious school, turning out more schoolteachers — and more al-Qaeda members.

As long as the graduates of the Saudi Wahabbist schools practiced their arts outside the kingdom, the House of Saud was content to look the other way.

Thousands did, joining Osama during the Afghan war in the ’80’s and staying with him through the war with America.

Since then, they’ve been driven out of Egypt, Afghanistan, Afghanistan and Iran and repatriated back to Saudi Arabia. The ‘evil’ the Prince Turki called on the world to help them destroy is one of their own design.

The problem al-Qaeda has with the house of Saud isn’t that they are corrupt or inept, or even that they are one of the most repressive regimes in the world.

Saudi Arabia is a country in which Wahabbi Islam is the only legal religion, where thieves have their hands amputated publicly with a sword and drinking alcohol means a prison term complete with lashes.

Although the House of Saud is the patron and defender and chief evangelist of Wahabbi Islam, they aren’t ‘religious’ enough for al-Qaeda.

That is the nature of evil. It feeds on itself and grows until soon it turns on and destroys its container. The House of Saud sold its soul to the devil and now it wants to renegotiate the deal. It doesn’t work that way . . . at least, not any more.

Time has run out.

“And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert . . . A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.” (Jeremiah 25:24,31,32)
