Back in June al Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman Abu Ghaith assured the world that Osama bin Laden remains alive and well and plotting future attacks against American targets. He bragged that al Qaeda was planning new operations, and that “the few coming days and months will prove to the whole world the truth of what we are saying.”

It’s been more than a month and a half since the latest threat, and al Qaeda has yet to strike. We are less than six weeks away from the first anniversary of 9/11 and al Qaeda has never followed up with a second attack, despite its promises.

The foundation of the terror network’s strategy is to demonstrate that the United States is vulnerable to attack despite its power. And that al Qaeda can survive the inevitable American counterattack.

To be viable, al-Qaeda has to live up to this boasting, hit the US, escape, and live to strike another day. The plan is to inspire the Muslim world to rise up against the infidel by proving it can be done.

But if al-Qaeda doesn’t strike soon, they will fail. More than that, al Qaeda will have accomplished exactly the opposite of what it had intended. Instead of convincing the Arab world that America is vulnerable, they will prove it can’t be done, and that attacking the USA is not survivable.

There are growing doubts within the al Qaeda network about its continued ability to function. U.S. intelligence, working with foreign intelligence services, has been penetrating al Qaeda’s networks systematically, announcing some daily arrests, keeping others a secret.

While Washington doesn’t know enough about al Qaeda to know exactly how bad it has been hurt, neither do most of al Qaeda’s operational agents.

The terror network is organized in ‘cells’ as a security precaution to prevent one captured cell from betraying the larger organization. One cell seldom knows what another cell is doing, or who they are.

Consequently, many of these al-Qaeda sleepers don’t know if they are still part of a larger terrorist operation or out there on their own.

Abu Gaith’s June statement that al-Qaeda and 98% of its leadership remains intact and plotting new nefarious deeds was apparently designed to overcome the developing crisis of confidence among al Qaeda’s members. Abu Ghaith bought al Qaeda a few months, but if it does not strike soon, the crisis of confidence will return with a vengeance.

As September 11’s anniversary approaches, al Qaeda will have to either put up or shut up. If they aren’t able to prove that they are still a viable organization by mounting another major successful attack against America, many of those cells are likely to disband before they cross the point of no return.

Assessment:

Taken from the perspective of Bible prophecy, if al-Qaeda never mounts another attack, it has already given the Biblical scenario for the last days a quantum leap forward. The Bible describes a world under antichrist as a world without secrets.

The antichrist’s control of society is so detailed that John says anyone not part of his social system won’t even be able to buy or sell.

Since 9/11, the global banking system has been tightened. Financial databases are being consolidated and internationalized as part of the war on terror. Civil liberties are being curtailed. Surveillance systems watch our every move, capture our every phone call, and can even capture every keystroke typed at your own private keyboard on your own personal computer. Even if you aren’t connected to the internet.

Privacy is a thing of the past. Americans have never been more accountable to their government than today. Indeed, citizens of any country – and the countries themselves — are accountable to the USA if they are alleged to be part of the global terror network.

These things are all necessary to successfully fight the war on terror. And they are all necessary elements of the scenario outlined by the Bible for the last days.

The war on terror could be over now — but the institutions put into place to combat it will remain.

The Homeland Security department will continue to exist, continue to centralize information, continue to snoop around looking for terrorists, long after the terrorists are all gone.

The Department of Homeland Security is an internal security service — something the United States has never employed in its history. Internal security services are a European invention antithetical to the American ideals of freedom and privacy. Such a system could never have taken hold in America prior to the September 11 attacks.

There is an old saying to the effect that one can turn a cucumber into a pickle, but you can never turn it back into a cucumber again afterwards.

Even if al-Qaeda is finished and Abu Ghaith’s threats were just the last gasp of a dying beast, the world will never be the same.

We’ve referred to it as the New Normal, because that is what it is. We knew it was coming. It had to, if these are the last days.

A typical day in the Holy Land: Two Israelis were killed Tuesday when their truck came under fire in the village of Jammain. The men were long-time traders with the Arabs. They were at a gas station filling up their truck when Arab gunmen opened fire on them from a nearby grove of olive trees.

An Israeli couple sleeping in their bed were attacked by a Palestinian intruder armed with a knife. The Palestinian broke into the home at three in the morning and stabbed the couple, wounding both of them. The husband was stabbed in the chest but managed to fight the intruder off. He was subsequently killed by security forces.

Five Israelis were wounded when a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up at around lunchtime Tuesday at the “Yemenite Felafel Stand” in downtown Jerusalem. The reason the bomber didn’t do more damage was due to a malfunctioning detonating device, according to police. The al Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade, the terrorist arm of Yasser Arafat’s Fatah party, claimed responsibility.

Meanwhile, Jewish settlers have begun to strike back. During the funeral on Sunday of an Israeli soldier killed at a roadside ambush rioted in Hebron. A Jewish settler couple and one of their 10 children were also killed in that ambush.

During the Hebron rioting, an eight-year-old girl was shot and killed through the doorway of her home, according to the Palestinians.

Israel Radio reported that 15 police officers and border policemen were wounded in the clashes.

Assessment:

Arafat continues to push toward the final stage of his Phased Plan for the destruction of Israel — that of creating a general Arab war against the Israelis. Arafat continues to play both sides against the middle, denying responsibility for attacks carried out by his own forces, such as the al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.

Arafat’s most recent denunciation carried the usual code line that such attacks ‘are not in the best interests of the Palestinian cause’ which is dutifully reported by the media but never questioned.

The ‘condemnation’ is no condemnation at all! If an attack were in the best interests of the Palestinian cause, then the ‘condemnation’ does not apply.

Clearly, since Arafat’s Phased Plan for the destruction of Israel calls for steadily escalating warfare until the rest of the Arab states are sucked into the conflict, the attacks were indeed in the best interests of Arafat’s cause.

But to those world leaders still gullible enough to believe Arafat really wants peace and a two-state solution, attacks on Israelis as they sleep in their beds do not work to that interest.

It is Arafat’s genius. His terrorists hear praise for their work, while the UN hears ‘condemnatory language’ and both conflicting messages are conveyed in the same sentence.

With all this going on, talks at the UN Security Council, held at the request of Arab nations following the Israeli missile attack on the Gaza Strip, continued Monday behind closed doors with no new developments.

The ongoing sessiion is a breathtaking example of antisemitism in action, when you consider what it is they are trying to accomplish with the meeting.

They are trying to find a way to condemn Israel for an attack in Gaza that killed one of Israel’s most wanted terrorists. Ten children were also killed in that attack, but nobody is disputing the fact that the target was a terrorist, not the children.

The United States said that it would veto any resolution that condemned Israel without explicitly condemning Palestinian terror as well. Hence the UN’s difficulty.

How to condemn Israel for accidentally killing ten children while targeting a terrorist without condemning the Palestinians for targeting children, sleeping couples in their beds and families at prayer?

“We had further discussions to see whether there was any progress on the draft the Arab group put down on Friday afternoon. That job did make further progress,” said Jeremy Greenstock, Britain’s UN ambassador and current head of the Security Council. If necessary, the talks would continue Tuesday, he added.

The resolution was sponsored by Saudi Arabia and backed by the Organization of Islamic States.

Perhaps out of desperation, ABC News is not even attempting to maintain the appearance of impartiality in its efforts to ‘blame Bush’ –sometimes blaming him for both sides of an issue.

For example, ABC News has led the media charge for new, tougher laws to police corporate CEO’s.

A week ago, on July 15, ABC’s Linda Douglass ‘explained’ to Peter Jennings; The Senate has moved with stunning speed to pass this very, very tough legislation….Lots of criminal penalties for such things as giving false stock tips or signing a deceptive financial report, long jail terms, and a very strong new board to oversee the accounting industry. The question now, Peter, is what will happen to this. Will it become law? The House passed a much weaker version, and the lobbyists are swarming over Capitol Hill to try to get the House to water down what the Senate has done.

The bad ol’ corporate lobbyists. And everybody that watches ABC News knows that ‘corporate lobbyists’ is a code word for ‘Republican operatives’.

What everybody really knows is that government oversight of the free market always results in a temporary slump. And since the Democrats have determined that they will make the economy their campaign issue, market slumps work for the Democrats.

Blame the GOP lobbyists for weakening the legislation, and then blame the Bush administration for the inevitable legislation-driven slump.

Once the legislation was passed, Douglass admitted the legislation she had been lobbying for (on ABC’s dime) for weeks was actually useless.

Douglass acknowledged longer prison terms may not stop corporate crime. After running through the longer penalties for such things as shredding documents and a 25 year prison sentence for a scheme to defraud, Douglass realized: Still, experts say just the threat of more jail time won’t stop corporate crime.

The Mysterious Rep Traficant

Ohio Congressman James Traficant was expelled from the House last week. He made history for being only the fifth member to ever be expelled. Of the remaining four, three were expelled during the Civil War for ‘traitorous conduct’ by siding with the South.

The only other member of the House ever expelled was Michael Myers, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, expelled for accepting money from undercover FBI agents posing as Arab sheiks seeking favors from Congress during the ABSCAM investigation of the 1980’s.

Right now, the Democrats are attempting to paint the administration as corrupt corporate raiders.

The Traficant hearing was an embarrassment to that effort, given that Traficant is a Democrat, as was Myers, the only other member to be expelled in over a hundred years. Traficant and Myers are actually in a class of their own, being the only two members of the House ever to be expelled for being corrupt.

Most of the major media did what they could to help out. Brokaw, Jennings and Rather have done entire reports on the Traficant hearings without ever mentioning his party affiliation, while never failing to mention the party affliation of every Republican who’s name came up in the story.

Assessment:

To the uninformed, since only the Republicans were identified by party, anybody not identified would also be assumed to be Republican. Including Jim Traficant, the convicted felon being booted out of Congress. Very subtle.

Uninformed people vote, too — based on how their parents and friends vote and what they can find out about the issues from 30 second sound bites on the news. And more Americans get their news from ABC than from any other source. So they say.

Brown’s Declaration of Independence

Those that don’t get their news from ABC won’t find out from CNN. According to CNN’s Aaron Brown, Traficant isn’t a Democrat anymore, he’s an Independent!

Brown reported on CNN on July 24, “The House of Representatives is debating whether to postpone until the fourth of September the expulsion hearing for Congressman James Traficant. The Ohio independent is appealing his recent conviction on ten counts including racketeering, taking bribes, and filing false tax returns.”

Racketeering, taking bribes and filing false tax returns is not the kind of light CNN wants to portray the Democrats in. It conflicts with their efforts to paint that sign on the Republicans.

Assessment:

What is significant isn’t that it is Republicans or Democrats. What is significant is that the media is making its bias clear. And it is that bias that runs the national agenda, not the public.

If you listen to the media, anyone who is anti-abortion is far right. However, if you favor abortion, you are a moderate.

For example, this quote from a New York Times story on Colin Powell; Mr. Powell’s approach to almost all issues — foreign or domestic — is pragmatic and nonideological. He is internationalist, multilateralist and moderate. He has supported abortion rights and affirmative action and is a Republican, many supporters say, in no small measure because Republican officials mentored and promoted him for years.

Powell “supports abortion rights and affirmative action and is a Republican”, says writer Todd Purdum, but he is “pragmatic and nonideological’ as well as being “internationalist, multilateralist and “moderate.”

Sounds like a lot of labels to pin on a ‘moderate’, especially one that is pro abortion, pro affirmative action and ‘nonideological’.

Name me two causes more ideological than abortion and affirmative action. I’ll wait.

We’ve discussed the polls that say half of America is anti-abortion, but that those who are anti-abortion are ‘right wing’, while those who are pro abortion are ‘moderate’– although the ‘moderates’ make up the other half of the country.

It’s a lie, but it is a liberal lie, so its ok.

2 Thessalonians Chapter Two discusses the rise of the antichrist’s government. Verse 11 says, “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:”

All the signs point to the fact the planet is undergoing a fundamental meltdown, but the millions of ‘documentaries’ about Bible prophecy so popular on the networks all portray Scripture as mysterious but suspicious writings on a par with Nostradamus or Edgar Cayce.

All have ‘experts’ explaining that prophecy isn’t really prophecy. Instead, its just a typical hysterical reaction that happens at the turn of every millennium. “Just look at what happened in the Year 1000,” they all say.

Lots of literature kicking around from the Year 1000, isn’t there? Name something.

[Of course, there’s plenty of literature from the millennium before that. But the Bible is not reliable because it says the exact opposite of what the ‘experts’ surmise is Millennial Fever. Instead, the Bible says this is exactly what we were to expect. Go figure].

But millions buy into that lie. In the main, we afford the broadcast media the status of infallibility. “If you see it on TV, it must be true” goes the old joke, — but we really believe it.

And the TV says that only reactionary right wing zealots actually take Bible prophecy seriously.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” 2 Peter 3:3-4]

Liars and scoffers. Who knew?

It was an unlikely outcome. All nine of the miners trapped 240 feet under the earth were rescued — alive, and apparently none the worse for wear after surviving for three days in the belly of the earth.

It began on Wednesday when their coal drilling machine unexpectedly broke open the abandoned mine, which had been thought to be remote enough from the Quecreek mine to pose no danger. Ground water runoff that had accumulated for decades in the older, higher mine broke into the Quecreek mine, and the men scrambled to find an air pocket.

They had just enough time to radio a warning to a separate party of nine miners who managed to reach the surface despite rushing waters that knocked them off their tractors.

The miners were able to reach a tiny airpocket at the top of an inclined tunnel in a chamber about four feet high. There they waited. For three days.

Topside, rescue workers ran into one snag after another. Drill bits broke, equipment was late arriving, seals failed and nobody knew for sure if anybody was even alive down there. Rescuers heard tapping on the first day, but after that, nothing.

Television reporters toured local cafes, milking the human interest angle for all it was worth and just generally being intrusive. But they were kept away from the families. They were busy.

Like most of America, as one reporter noted, they were praying.

Assessment:

According to experts, the success of the operation was nothing short of miraculous. David Hess, the Pensylvania secretary of environmental protection, called it a ‘million to one shot’ that they were able to even locate the men. The placement of the pipe was a matter of informed guesswork by mining engineers poring over maps, he said. “Those guys could have been anywhere down there,” Hess told the New York Times.

The engineers picked a spot with a rising incline near the dig where the night crew had been working. The tapping from the tapped miners told them they had guessed right.

Medical teams standing by had a game plan all worked out. Disaster teams were going to rush down food and medical supplies and set up a triage area. Once everyone’s condition was stabilized, they would bring the men out to waiting ambulances.

The miners didn’t want to do it that way, since they were all fine and just wanted some hot coffee, a warm bed and their families, not necessarily in that order.

They were so impatient to leave their would-be tomb that the disaster relief guys had to stand down and let the miners come up unrelieved. Everybody clapped and patted each other on the back and remarked at how amazingly well the men looked, given their ordeal.

Everything went wrong from the beginning. Except for one thing. Remember why the families weren’t giving interviews to CNN? Because they were praying. We were praying here. I have no doubt most of you were praying.

God said yes. And the broken drill bits, ‘million to one’ odds at guessing their location, busted seals, split O rings, replacement part delays and rising waters 240 feet below the surface didn’t make any difference. The men were fine.

Nothing went right, but at 10:16 pm last night, the auger broke through the ceiling of a four-foot high chamber deep beneath the earth and nine men scrambled alive from the belly of the earth. Against ‘million to one’ odds.

Two Air Force F-16s were scrambled early Friday morning to investigate a low-flying, unknown aircraft close to the restricted flight zone over Washington, according to an official at the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

A Pentagon official said that an aircraft appeared on radar in the 15-mile restricted flight zone around Washington.

“The pair of jets were scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland at about 1 a.m. Friday to investigate reports of an aircraft in the Washington, D.C. Temporary Flight Restriction Area,” said Maj. Barry Venable, a spokesman for NORAD.

Military officials say they do not know just what the jets were chasing, because whatever it was disappeared. “There are any number of scenarios, but we don’t know what it was,” said Maj. Barry Venable, another spokesman for NORAD.

Radar detected a low, slow-flying aircraft about 1 a.m. Friday, according to a military official. Controllers were unable to establish radio communications with the unidentified aircraft, and NORAD was notified.

When the F-16s carrying air-to-air missiles were launched from Andrews, the unidentified aircraft’s track faded from the radar, the military official said, speaking on condition that he not be identified.

Pilots with the D.C. Air National Guard’s 113th Air Wing, which flew the F-16s from Andrews, reported nothing out of the ordinary.

A witness quoted by the Atlanta Journal Constitution described it this way. “It looked like a shooting star with no trailing mist,” Renny Rogers said. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Well, Maybe Once

Saturday night, July 19, 1952 was one of the most famous dates in the bizarre history of UFOs. Before the night was over, a pilot reported seeing unexplained objects, radar at two local Air Force bases — Andrews and Bolling — picked up the UFOs, and two Air Force F-94 jets streaked over Washington, searching for flying saucers.

Then, a week later, it happened all over again — more UFOs on the radar screen, more jets scrambled over Washington.

Across America, the story of jets chasing UFOs over the White House knocked the Korean War and the presidential campaign off the front pages of newspapers.

Captain S.C. “Casey” Pierman, a pilot with 17 years of experience, described them fifty years ago last weekend as, “falling stars without tails.”

Assessment:

It was noted back in 1952 that, “when newspapers stopped writing about the UFOs, people stopped reporting UFOs.” While not entirely true, the hysterical sightings that spiked shortly after the Washington ‘blue light’ episode dropped by 80%.

Fifty years later, to the day, the same mysterious blue lights made another appearance over Washington.

They were tracked by NORAD, so that kills any ‘mirage’ explanation. They were seen by hundreds of witnesses on the ground, so that ends any plausible equipment malfunction in NORAD’s computers.

NORAD felt the threat level sufficient to scramble fighters — while admittedly a routine response in the New Normal, the blue lights were real enough to cause the scramble order to be issued.

So what are they? Are they extraterrestrials who are trying to make contact with earth? Why don’t they land, then? And where have they been for EXACTLY fifty years?

On the other hand, if they are extraterrestrials who want to keep their presence a secret, why don’t they turn out their lights? And why fly over the most heavily defended city on the face of Planet Earth?

Now, and for the record, I don’t believe in little green men from Mars. I don’t believe that life exists outside of Planet Earth.

The reason is sin. Sin is that which ought not to be. Our planet is a quarantine area, keeping sin isolated. Man is born with a sin nature and remains in quarantine. Other created beings would require a similar quarantine to keep from infecting the universe.

But at the same time, one cannot dismiss the eyewitness testimony, the NORAD records, the scrambling of jets and so forth as being ‘temperature inversion’ — hot air — over Washington.

We are living in the last days. The Bible says that our planet is also the battlefield in an ongoing spiritual war that, during the Tribulation period, rips through the membrane between the dimensions, when the angelic war spills over into the here and now.

The antichrist does amazing things, the false prophet calls down fire from heaven, beasts with stings in their tails that look like giant locusts. . .you get the idea.

I believe something overflew Washington, and it certainly could be extra-terrestrial, but only in the sense it is not of earthly origin.

Ezekiel describes the ‘living creatures’ that surrounded the ‘whirlwind’ out of which God spoke to him.

“As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl:(dark blue) and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel. When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went. As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four. And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.” [Ezekiel 1:13-20]

Jesus said that there would be certain specific signs — milemarkers, so to speak — that we can use to determine how far along the road we are to the time of His coming.

(He was answering the question, “what will be the sign of Thy coming and of the end of the world?”)

“And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” [Luke 21:24-28]

A faction of the Fatah is threatening to target senior Israeli government and army officials, including Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, in response to Israel’s killing of senior Hamas military commander Salah Shehadeh and 14 other Palestinians, among them nine children, in Gaza earlier this week.

The group, known as “The Return Brigade,” also threatened former prime minister Ehud Barak, OC Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Moshe Ya’alon, his predecessor, Lt.-Gen. (res.) Shaul Mofaz, Shin Bet chief Avi Dichter, Education Minister Limor Livnat, and Minister of Internal Security Uzi Landau, IDF major-generals Avi Malka and Giora Ireland, and politicians Avigdor Lieberman and Yitzhak Levy.

What Is Al-Fatah?

Yasser Arafat founded Al Fatah while an engineering student at the University of Cairo in 1956. He began by publishing a magazine advocating armed struggle against Israel. The name, “Al Fatah” means ‘armed struggle’.

From there the movement grew and by 1964, Arafat was a full-time revolutionary, organizing Fatah raids into Israel from Jordan.

After the Arabs lost the Gaza Strip, Golan Heights and West Bank to Israel after the Six Days War, Arafat declared the existence of the Palestinian people, invented a flag and began the Palestine Liberation Organization.

Thus began the myth of the ‘Palestinian people’. Arafat divided his organization into military [terrorist] and political wings. Al Fatah was the political arm of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

What is Palestine?

Prior to 1967, the Gaza Strip was part of Egypt populated by Egyptians. The Golan Heights was part of Syria and populated by Syrians. The West Bank was part of Jordan. It was populated by Jordanians.

Don’t take my word for it. On March 31, 1977 Zuheir Mohsein, a member of the Supreme Council of the PLO told the Dutch newspaper, Trouw, “There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political reasons that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity, because it is in the interest of the Arabs to encourage a separate Palestinian identity in contrast to Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity is there only for tactical reasons. The establishment of a Palestinian state is a new expedient to continue the fight against Zionism and for Arab unity.”

If there were a Palestinian ‘people,’ who are heirs to the land by right of prior possession, what is their language? When did they govern their Palestinian lands? What is the Palestinian culture?

The answers are, none, didn’t and there isn’t one.

When Jews began to immigrate to Palestine in large numbers in 1882, fewer than 250,000 Arabs lived there, and the majority of them had arrived in recent decades.

Palestine was never an exclusively Arab country, although Arabic gradually became the language of most the population after the Muslim invasions of the seventh century.

No independent Arab or Palestinian state ever existed in Palestine. When the distinguished Arab-American historian, Princeton University Prof. Philip Hitti, testified against partition before the Anglo-American Committee in 1946, he said: “There is no such thing as ‘Palestine’ in history, absolutely not.” In fact, Palestine is never explicitly mentioned in the Koran. Neither is Jerusalem.

When the First Congress of Muslim-Christian Associations met in Jerusalem in February 1919 to choose Palestinian representatives for the Paris Peace Conference, the following resolution was adopted: “We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds.”

In 1937, a local Arab leader, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, told the Peel Commission, which ultimately suggested the partition of Palestine: “There is no such country [as Palestine]! ‘Palestine’ is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria.”

The representative of the Arab Higher Committee to the United Nations submitted a statement to the General Assembly in May 1947 that said “Palestine was part of the Province of Syria” and that, “politically, the Arabs of Palestine were not independent in the sense of forming a separate political entity.”

A few years later, Ahmed Shuqeiri, later the chairman of the PLO, told the Security Council: “It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria.”

On May 15, 1948 when Israel declared itself an independent state, the Arab Leagues issued an official statement which opened, “Palestine was part of the former Ottoman Empire subject to its law and represented in its parliament. The overwhelming majority of the population of Palestine were Arabs.”

The long answer to the short question, ‘What is Palestine?’ is, it’s a myth. The PLO, which still governs the PA is a terrorist organization.

Assessment:

None of this is ancient history. It’s modern history. Recent history. It isn’t a secret.

The Balfour Declaration was issued by the British government on November 2, 1917, and designated ‘Palestine’ as the homeland for the Jewish people. The word ‘Arab’ does not appear in the declaration.

Shortly afterwards, in September 1922, the League of Nations and Great Britain decided that the provisions for setting up a Jewish national home would not apply to the area east of the Jordan River, which constituted three-fourths of the territory included in the Mandate and which eventually became the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

(Later at the San Remo Conference, the same British authority drew drew the boundaries of modern Syria, Iraq, Lebanon Jordan and Kuwait. Nobody is claiming Syria doesn’t exist)

According to the Peel Commission, appointed by the British Government to investigate the cause of the 1936 Arab riots, “the field in which the Jewish National Home was to be established was understood, at the time of the Balfour Declaration, to be the whole of historic Palestine, including Transjordan.”

Some of this, if you are long time members of the Omega Letter, is just a refresher. But it is important to understand the Big Picture to discover the answer to the question, ‘Why?’

Why is it that the UN, (who presumably keeps records) would consistently support claims of Palestinian nationality, when it knows it to be a myth? Why would the UN consistently deny Israeli claims of sovereignty when by any measure of international law, it is no less firm than those of Jordan or Iraq or Saudi Arabia?

All are British creations younger than the Balfour Declaration that established a Jewish homeland.

Why does the UN take the position that a Jewish homeland is racist, whereas a Palestinian Arab state — where Jews would be excluded — is not?

And why in the world would the Western democracies consistently side with the Arab enemies of democratic principles against the only western-style democracy in the region?

It makes no logical sense. It makes no political sense. It doesn’t even make any economic sense.

The Arab stranglehold on oil is another myth — we’ve got lots of oil, and the vast untapped oil fields of the former Soviet Union make the Saudi oilfields look like puddles.

So, why?

It’s because Israel is a homeland for the Jews. The Jews claim that homeland was given them by God. For the world to recognize Israel’s right to exist would be too close to giving recognition to their God than makes them comfortable.

The UN has no problem with Buddha or Mohammed or Allah. It will side with them every single time. By contrast, Israel is a stench in the nostrils of the world order.

And the mere suggestion of the Biblical God creates a kind of a mass insanity among the global elite. The world system is run by the god of this world, and he demands that the world worship only him.

The existence of Israel is a thorn in the enemy’s side. He has spent two thousand years trying to wipe them out and prevent their ingathering — for he knew that, once restored, the timeclock on his hegemony started counting down.

“Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. [Zechariah 8:7-8]

“And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong. [Zecharaiah 8:13]

The existence of the state of Israel is more than a suggestion — it is a living testimony to the God Who said, “And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.” Leviticus 26:12

The world’s largest media company confirmed this week that it is a target of an SEC probe. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is conducting a “fact-finding mission” about some advertising transactions at America Online, Chief Executive Officer Richard Parsons acknowledge.

The SEC inquiry comes after the Washington Post reported that America Online used “unconventional” transactions, such as settling legal disputes with agreements to buy online ads, to help meet analysts’ estimates for three quarters in 2000 and 2001.

The second-quarter results benefited from an accounting change in which AOL Time Warner will no longer reduce the value of acquired assets every quarter. The company reported a $54.2 billion loss in the first quarter to write down America Online Inc.’s 2001 purchase of Time Warner Inc. The merger hasn’t lived up to promises that the online unit would boost profit at Time Warner media businesses.

More Lily Gilding

Another monster company turns out to be a fraud. While the Democrats keep hammering away at Bush/Cheney for the way they ran their companies, ex-president Clinton was quoted in the New York Times as having been stymied by Congress when he tried to institute corporate reforms.

Oh, please. As I recall, the AOL, CNN, TimeWarner deal required a special waiver that the previous adminstration completely supported. Enron, Worldcom and all the rest were doing ok during the 90’s.

There are so many examples of the previous administration’s corporate sweetheart deals that a new category would have to be opened and the scandals would have to be numbered.

Question: How did the miracle economy of the 1990’s come to be? Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t that Fed Chairman Greenspan who said the economy was in a bubble, that there was too much ‘irrational exuberance’ in the market as a consequence of artifically inflated corporate earnings figures?

(Greenspan made those comments in 1996. Who was at the helm, taking credit for the “longest peacetime economic expansion in history”)?

It’s pretty transparent, really. This is political, not economic. The fundamentals of the economy are no different now than they were five years ago.Smoke and mirrors and unsustainable growth. Except now somebody has blown away some of the smoke.

The market is also tanking because the politicians have made it a campaign issue, further exposing the ‘miracle’ as the shell game it is.

If the economy improves, it works for the GOP. If it tanks, it works for the Democrats. In fact, the more it tanks, the better it is for Democratic hopefuls in the November mid-terms.

To accomplish the DNC strategy, your 401K has to go down the tubes and your investments have to dry up and go south.

Since politicians are elected to represent their constitutents, it seems a bit odd to me that one entire party can openly dedicate itself to sabotaging investor confidence while claiming it is doing it for you, the average guy. And have anybody buying it.

Hegel Would Be Proud

The 19th century philosopher Georg Hegel outlined the crisis management dialectic that bears his name.

Hegel concluded that conflict creates history. Therefore, he concludes, history can be shaped by conflict. Hegel concluded that a population can be convinced to work against its own best interests via the application of a logical three stage program.

The Hegelian Dialectic offers a thesis, an antithesis, and resolves the argument between the two with a synthesis, which is presented to avoid a crisis. The crisis is often designed for the purpose of getting acceptance of the synthesis.

Thesis: Americans will blame the incumbent for an economic downturn and vote against the incumbent party.

Synthesis: Identify a connection between the party in power and the market downturn, continuing to talk down the market, talk up corporate fraud and scare small investors out of the stock market.

Antithesis: If enough people pull their money out, the market will head south, jobs will be lost, causing a ripple effect across the lower socio-economic strata [that the Democrats claim as their base] and those injured by the economy will vote for the Democrats.

They’ll worry about how to undo the damage they are doing in order to win votes after they accomplish their primary goal. Which is not to help the economy, by the way. It is to get elected.

I am astonished that there is anyone in America that cannot see through this — but that is the reason everybody quotes Georg Hegel and not Jack Kinsella. Hegel was undoubtedly smarter — ’cause it works.

Assessment:

The Omega Letter isn’t political by design — it is a publication dedicated to examining current events the perspective of Bible prophecy.

But one cannot understand Bible prophecy for the last days without some understanding politics and the economy. The antichrist’s political government draws its power from his control of both the global religious system and the global economic system.

The antichrist’s economic power base is built on smoke and mirrors instead of wealth, just like the one we have today. According to John, eventually the antichrist’s control of the economy will be so complete that no man will be able to buy or sell without the Mark. Wealth will be intangible, as it is today.

(A dollar is only worth as much as somebody believes it is worth — it has no intrinsic value of its own, like a gold or silver dollar does)

The antichrist’s political power is derived from his ability to manage by crisis. And the Tribulation will provide plenty of crises to keep him busy.

The point of today’s briefing isn’t politics, but partisanship and how it creates Hegelian sheep. The DNC’s daily talking points are a textbook example of Hegelian management by crisis in action.

Many times I’ve heard people say, “when they come out with a Mark, I’ll believe all that Bible stuff,” or, “Nobody can deceive the whole world.” Most of us believe that the other guy can be deceived, but not us.

After the previous administration ran the market up to the dizzing heights of the 1990’s by keeping attention focused away how the market works and taking credit for its results, it started to tank 40 days into the new administration.

The reason it started to collapse is because there was never any real wealth to support the inflated earnings to begin with (‘irrational exuberance’ – 1996), but that fact was largely ignored until a new administration took a look at the books and said, ‘wait a minute!’

In trying to figure out what happened to the ‘miracle of the 90’s’ that began to collapse only three months into the 00’s, the new administration accidentally exposed to the investing public the fact that it was all smoke and mirrors.

(The Republicans would have been just as happy to keep the deception going on indefinitely for the same reason the Democrats want to see it collapse now — so they can take credit for it – a pox on both their houses!)

Blaming the current administration for the economic catastrophe that is still unfolding is like blaming the sheriff for crime because he arrested some criminals.

But it is working, because Hegel was right.

The antichrist’s system will work along exactly the same lines. For centuries, the book of the Revelation was a confusing book of heads, horns, beasts and symbols.

But these are the last days, and suddenly, it all makes sense to this generation.

When the prophet Daniel was given his vision of events as they will unfold during the Tribulation, he said to the revealing angel, “And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?”

The angel told Daniel, “Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.” Daniel 12:8-9]

That is the question Syrian President Bashar al Assad is mulling over this week following a series of high-level communiques shuffled between Damascus and Jerusalem via American and Egyptian backchannels.

Israel has now delivered three warnings to the Syrian government concerning Hezbollah’s operations. Two were transmitted through the United States, the other through Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

The last warning was the most ominous. The Israeli government reportedly told the Syrians that if Hezbollah again attacks a target inside Israel, retaliation will be taken against military targets in Syria.

Specifically, Israel would attack an armored brigade in southern Syria from the air, followed by artillery fire and perhaps an air-mobile assault. The goal would be the complete destruction of a Syrian brigade containing up to 100 tanks.

Syria’s tank corps consists mostly of old Soviet T-54s and spare parts are hard to come by. New tanks are even harder to come by.

Presumably, Assad knows that the loss of a Syrian armored brigade would constitute a serious blow to the country’s military capability. And that is assuming Israel would stop with the destruction of a single tank brigade.

But it appears that Assad doesn’t really understand the risks he’s facing. Assad the younger spent his life in practice as an eye doctor. He wasn’t ready for the job, and still isn’t. He came to power reluctantly, assuming the mantle as sole dictator of Syria — but without the steel his father brought to the job.

Israel wants Syria to stop Hezbollah’s attacks in order to avoid being drawn back into the endless and costly game it tried to give up when it withdrew from Lebanon in 2000.

The implicit understanding between Israel and Syria regarding the Jewish state’s withdrawal was that Damascus, via the Lebanese government, would take responsibility for controlling Hezbollah.

While Israel has its own reasons for extending the threat, the warnings also serve US interests as Washington continues to prepare for war with Iraq. Washington wants Damascus to stand down so it can focus on pummelling Iraq — if they won’t do it out of love, its ok if they stand down out of fear.

The hope is that Assad will recognize the absolute certainty of military disaster staring him in the face. Israel hopes it will cause him to rein in Hezbollah. Washington hopes it will keep him out of the war against Iraq.

But for whatever reason, Syria must first be neutralized to protect our flank before the US moves against Saddam.

Assessment:

An Israeli attack on Syria would mean some serious political problems for the US among the Arab states. But a US attack on Baghdad will accomplish pretty much the same thing. There’s not much left to lose.

In fact, unless Assad rolls over — and soon — an Israeli operation against Damascus will become a necessary element in the overall US-Iraqi war strategy.

Israel’s threat is real, in particular because it so perfectly dovetails with US strategic interests.

From Washington’s point of view, whether Damascus is removed as a threat because it changes policies or loses tanks is irrelevant. This is war.

Damascus has an as-yet-unfulfilled role to play in Bible prophecy. The destruction of Damascus was prophesied by the prophet Isaiah. “The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. ” [Isaiah 17:1]

Damascus is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. In its long history, the city has never been destroyed.

The city of Babylon is located about thirty miles outside of Baghdad. It has a population of about thirty thousand. Saddam has largely rebuilt the city, including several of Nebuchanezzar’s palaces.

Jeremiah prophesied of Babylon, “And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.” [Jeremiah 51:37]

Of the kingdom of Babylon, [modern day Iraq] Jeremiah says, “Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.” [Jeremiah 51:43]

The Bible claims 100% accuracy, 100% of the time, past, present and future. None other among the world’s sacred writings make similar claims. Only the Bible.

It remains an open challenge to the world system. Over the centuries, every generation has had its great thinkers and philosophers who dedicated their lives and considerable intellects to disproving the Scripture.

“Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” [Isaiah 46:8-10]

The CIA has warned Turkish government authorities to be on alert for a poisonous biological or chemical substance that was sent from Georgia to Turkey for possible use in a terrorist attacks according to the Turkish news agency Anatolia. The Security General Directorate (SGD), a Turkish government security service, warned all provincial governments to be on alert for attacks using the substance.

A Georgian national named Abu Atiya sent the substance, that appears to be an ointment, to a man in Turkey operating under the code name ‘Musab’.

The CIA warning was passed to the SGD by the officials at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara.

The warning stated that the substance would be used in an attack in the next 20 days. The toxin reaches its victims by passing through the skin and will be used by Musab or another terrorist named Abu Tasir.

Authorities were encouraged to alert experts and medical teams of any unusual illnesses that may be caused by the toxin.

Assessment:

This is a most disturbing report. It was only a matter of time before somebody had the bright idea of using a slow acting toxin to effect assassinations. An ointment on the skin and a handshake is all that is necessary. Presidential ‘rope lines’ are already a thing of the past.

Since 9/11, President Bush has missed few opportunities to meet with leaders of the various Muslim communities. In fact, in the confusion following the attacks, many of the leaders Bush met with were later found to have direct connections to al Qaeda. A bit of ointment on the skin, a handshake . . .

A Domestic Military?

Homeland security chief Tom Ridge says the threat of terrorism may force government planners to consider using the military for domestic law enforcement. Bush called on Congress to thoroughly review the law that bans the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines from participating in arrests, searches, seizure of evidence and other police-type activity on U.S. soil.

The original Posse Comitatus was a rider to an appropriations bill, Chapter 263, Section 15, approved on June 18, 1878. It says, in part;

“From and after the passage of this act it shall not be lawful to employ any part of the Army of the United States, as a posse comitatus, or otherwise, for the purpose of executing the laws, except in such cases and under such circumstances as such employment of said force may be expressly authorized by the Constitution or by act of Congress; and no money appropriated by this act shall be used to pay any of the expenses incurred in the employment of any troops in violation of this section. . .”

The impetus for this bill came from two sources. The first was the end of the Civil War Reconstruction. From the beginning of the Republic until the enactment of Posse Comitatus it had been regular practice to station federal troops at polling places to prevent drunks and other undesirables from voting.

The second was the conditions on the western frontier. Fort commanders were often the only law and order in a region, the only security for settlers moving west. Most of the frontier was still outside the US proper, and had not been admitted to statehood. Fort commanders had begun to exercise civilian law enforcement responsibilities, sometimes in an arbitrary way, to hunt down whomever they believed to be criminals or Indians who were threatening settlers.

The National Security Act of 1947 further defined the restrictions on the use of the military in domestic situations. It prohibits “direct participation by a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps in a search, seizure, arrest, or other similar activity unless participation in such activity by such member is otherwise authorized by law.”

Assessment:

The prohibitions against using the US military in domestic situations were put in place to prevent military officers from amassing and using their power domestically. A military coup d`etat is much less likely when all the military guns are pointed outward.

Posse Commitatus guaranteed our freedoms by ensuring our military forces could only be used for defense. The War Department was renamed the Department of Defense to further entrench the concept in law.

Until the terror attacks on September 11th. The decision to use the military as part of the domestic war on terror makes sense and seems necessary. Provided we can trust the people that are in charge.

The freedoms that are being eroded as a consequence of life in the New Normal are allegedly temporary measures such as are necessary to conduct the war against terror.

But an old adage is appropriate here. It’s easy to turn a cucumber into a pickle. It’s a different matter to reverse the process.

Proverbs 14:12 tells us that “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” God wanted to be sure that we got it, so He repeated Himself, word for word, in Proverbs 16:25.

It seems like a good idea. But there is something about this that just doesn’t quite pass the smell test.

The White House has reversed a planned thirty-four million dollar grant to the United Nations to use in its ‘family planning’ programs.

Among the ‘family planning’ measures that money would have paid for are forced sterilizations and abortions, especially in China. Chinese authorities are notorious for enforcing their ‘one child’ policy.

Proponents of the UN family planning program complain that the decision was made under political pressure from the alleged ‘right wing’.

Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney attributed it to the White House’s “mindless zeal to take care of their right-wing base.”

The Right Wing?

A poll conducted by the New York Times and CBS News in 1998 on the 25th anniversary of Roe v. Wade found that half of all Americans equate abortion with murder, and only 32% believe abortion should be generally available to all women.

The poll also indicated that US citizens had become less accepting of some of the reasons given for having an abortion. Only 25% of those polled thought that it was acceptable for a woman to have an abortion to avoid interrupting her career. In 1990, 37% would have accepted this motive.

Similarly, only 42% of Americans would allow a girl to have an abortion so that she would avoid interrupting her studies, a fall of 6% since 1989.

Even loaded polls with questions slanted to favor the pro-abortion agenda are unable to come up with evidence that being pro-life is ‘right wing’.

ABC News found on July 2 that “fifty-two percent of Americans say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, down from 59 percent in January and almost back to where it was (53 percent) last summer. Forty-three percent say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases.”

“Support for legal abortion has wavered by around seven points, without clear direction, in polls by ABCNEWS and others. That underscores public ambivalence on the issue: While large majorities say it should be legal in dire cases, most also have said abortions should be illegal when done solely to end an unwanted pregnancy.”

No matter which poll you accept, a greater majority of Americans are ‘right wing’ on the question of abortion than voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 [when he won with a plurality margin of 41%].

Right wing? What does that mean, exactly?

The ABCNEWS/Beliefnet poll finds that religious belief forms a substantial portion of opposition to abortion. Among people who oppose legal abortion, about half cite their religious beliefs as the main factor in their opinion. The other half divide among a range of influences, including their personal but nonreligious views.

But less than ten percent of those who support abortion have any religious perspective at all, ABC found.

Support for legal abortion has other sources: Thirty-five percent of supporters cite their personal nonreligious views, 22 percent their education, 10 percent their personal experience. Fewer than one in 10 supporters cite religious belief as the chief factor in their view that abortion should be legal.

The ‘Mainstream’ View

Now let’s take a look at how the mainstream media is reporting the administration’s policy reversal.

“Conservative activists helped carry Bush to the presidency, and White House political advisers have carefully tended them with an eye to his re-election. But the decision on family planning could also damage Bush’s standing with moderates and women.” [- The Washington Post, July 22, 2002]

Assessment:

Half of America is anti-abortion, and half of them are anti-abortion for religious reasons. The other half are pro-abortion, and less than one in ten claim religion plays any role in their position favoring abortion.

Where are the Washington Post’s ‘moderates’? Obviously, since nearly half of all Americans are opposed to abortion, they must be members of the ‘right wing’. And half of them — (lessee, that would be 25% of Americans, right?) oppose abortion on religious grounds.

The other half of Americans support abortion. Less than ten percent of them claim a religious worldview — (about five percent of Americans, give or take a couple of points).

CNN’s report of the story used the word ‘conservative’ three times to describe those opposed to abortion. ‘Moderate’ was used to describe those who oppose those who oppose abortion. In the CNN worldview, the baseline for comparison goes like this. There are ‘conservatives’ and ‘typical Americans’.

CNN called Bush’s policy reversal an ‘anti-abortion’ position while it referred to Bush’s critics as those who favor ‘family planning’. The word ‘liberal’ does not appear.

The Boston Globe described the UN Population Fund this way: “The fund operates projects – ranging from contraception to abstinence education to gynecological services – in 142 countries.”

The Globe claims that reports of forced sterilizations and abortions in China are “vehemently disputed” then lists as ‘evidence’ the findings of groups friendly to the UN Family Planning Initiative.

In their coverage, the word ‘conservative’ appears three times — in Boston, both ‘moderates’ and ‘liberals’ are the ‘mainstream’ evidently, since they required no cautionary label to identify them.

Ok. Time to identify the players. So who are the mainstream? The conservatives? The right wing?

There are only two sides to take on the question.

It’s either ok to kill the unborn under some circumstances or it is not ok under any circumstances. Everything in between are just degrees of compromise arising from one of those two baseline approaches.

We know the ‘right wing’ — to those who favor abortion — consists of anybody who opposes abortion. So the ‘right wing conservatives’ make up just about half of all Americans.

The other half of America is evidently the ‘moderate mainstream’.

That explains why it was unnecessary to look for the liberal label in the mainstream press – there’s no such thing.

There is no standard for liberal – other than it is anti-conservative and stands for the principle that there are no bedrock principles.
